Default Onkyo TX-NR3009 $1469.20 on Amazon!!!

Wow, just noticed that the Onkyo 3009 has dropped to below $1500 on Amazon. I think this is by far the lowest I've seen it.

I don't know how long the price is good for, if it is a Father's Day type sale, or if they are clearing inventory of this model in preparation for a new model, or if it is just a random price drop.

The 3009 is the lowest Onkyo model you can get that has the Audyssey MultEQ XT32.

Too bad for me as I paid this for an open box unit from J&R a few months ago (and still haven't set it up yet because our HT is not quite finished). This is for a brand new one.

In any case, great price on the 3009 as well as the 1009 and 5009 as well.

Link.

OK, I guess this must be in response to a sale at Vann's.

Ugh, now down to $1349.00!!

Now I'm not too happy as I paid about $150 more for my open box unit (although it was basically new) a few months ago.

At least if I had been using it during that time I could have said that I've had gotten the extra use/enjoyment out of it for those extra $$, but alas, I only set it up last night (our HT wasn't ready yet)!

Oh, well. You can never predict these things.

Great deal for anyone considering this unit.

I only paid $1150 for a NIB NR3008. The prices on the new units hasn't been competitive since Newegg dropped the 300x/500x models.
4k... really? Can't we just be happy with BD for a while.

CraigW, was that recently or when it was the current model?

I hadn't really followed these more expensive models before, my other receivers were more in the $500-600 range, like the Onkyo 80X series. So I wasn't entirely sure what to expect with respect to pricing on something like the 3009.

I primarily decided to consider one of the higher models to get the Audyssey MultiEQ XT32 since we recently made a dedicated HT.

When I saw an open box unit at JR for $1499 I decided to go for it as it was several hundred $ less than what the prices seemed to be elsewhere. Fortunately, it looked like it had never been used or even opened really.

Do I wish I waited until now to get a new one at this price, especially since our HT wasn't ready until this past week or so? Sure. But I'm not too upset as you can never know for sure what will happen to prices and I thought our HT would have been ready (*ahem*) . . . a lot sooner than it was.

Now, if this keeps dropping to less than $1k, OK, then I might be a bit more upset. But by then hopefully I'll be so busy watching movies in our new HT that I won't even notice!

A must have, if your running dual subwoofers.

Double the Bass with Two Subs

Audyssey Sub EQ HT let’s you properly integrate two subwoofers in a home theater system.

Bass in small rooms is notoriously difficult to get right. Bass lovers will try almost anything to enhance bass output. Many believe adding a second subwoofer will solve the problem – this is true in part, but only if the second subwoofer is properly integrated, not simply added on to an existing set-up. Audyssey Sub EQ HT ensures that the level and delay for each subwoofer is correct before integrating them into the equalization solution.

This new technology is a huge leap forward from the days when adding an additional subwoofer was accomplished by adding a y-chord to the subwoofer output of an AVR. Now, the process is automated and produces better results because it is fully integrated with MultEQ. The process takes only a few minutes and results in rich, full bass for everyone in the room.

I've targeted the TX-NR3009 to replace my Yamaha RX-V667 receiver.

I don't know whether to order it now at $1,349.00, or wait for another round of price cuts.
Although it seems to be holding firm at this price point.

The price is dropping because the 2012 models have hit the stores.

This dropping in price makes me rethink about considering a buy. It is somewhat like the share market. The only difference being you wait for it to become high and then sell your shares and here you wait for the price to come down and then you would buy it. Ha Ha.

But this quick reduction baffles me. Wonder what the reason might be?

Anyone care to comment on the analog sound quality in stereo? I'm pretty demanding for music quality and I've had separates in the past, but this receiver looks to have a lot of good features. Does it tend towards the typical Onkyo sound?

From the What Hi-Fi? review of the 3009:

Detail backed by masses of power

There’s scope to power 11 audio channels, including front-height and -width speakers in addition to twin subwoofers. Audyssey’s MultEQ XT32 calibration system configures the amp to cope with room acoustics and multiple seating positions.

Spin The Expendables, and the Onkyo doesn’t hold back. Explosions are delivered with bone-jarring weight and equally impressive precision.

There’s texture and detail aplenty, together with dynamic dialogue as the main characters attempt to shout over the volleys of gunfire expertly placed in the soundstage.

That expert precision and dynamic ability helps with music too. Whether you’re streaming one of your Spotify playlists or spinning a high-definition multichannel music Blu-ray, the driven delivery ensures you’re duly entertained.

Here's a link from here about the new models.

Apparently available "in July" based on the last paragraph.

Here's something strange.

I pulled the trigger on the 3009 back in July for $1,319.89 from OneCall.
It's now selling for $1,399.89 at OneCall.

I thought this was a closeout model?

If demand is high and stocks dwindle faster than expected, it's not uncommon for the remaining units to see a price uptick. I know this was the case for two popular Pioneer models, the VSX-1121-K and Elite VSX-52, on Amazon. Maybe OneCall figured that if someone's willing to spend $1320+ on a receiver, what's another $80?
