I was thinking about buying some new speakers for my PC (for watching blu-rays/movies mainly, but also possibly for music and video games)
I'm not sure if I should get 2.1 or 5.1 speakers. Since I'm only in a small room, i don't know if I should get 5.1 I was thinking of maybe getting these: http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/ipod-...-system/644808 They seem like good quality speakers, and apparently have good reviews. But since I don't know too much about speakers, I'd like to know what you guys think, or if you recommend a different set of PC speakers (whether it be 2.1 or 5.1, I'm open to both). Also price range isn't too much of an issue. Thanks Last edited by Jimmy Bro; 07-09-2012 at 03:21 PM. |

audioengine makes some of the better computer speakers out there for the money, I think they are the A2 or A5+.
Unless you want to get into high end audio speakers, then you could look into the Dynaudio Focus 110A, they are about $2200.

I'll second the idea that powered studio monitors make great computer speakers.
In addition to the KRK's, I would check out the Behringer Truth B3030A. It is internally bi-amplified 50 watts RMS for the low frequency 6.5 inch Kevlar driver, 25 watts RMS for the ribbon tweeter, 140 watt peak combined. Dude, a self powered speaker with a dang ribbon tweeter for just under 200 bucks... sweet. About 197 bucks at sweetwater.com right now. That's a solid value, you'd have to invest an exponentially greater amount to beat it in terms of fidelity. http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B3030A.aspx

I was thinking about getting some home theatre speakers and receiver instead, for dat lossless TrueHD and Master Audio audio
My room is quite small so I was thinking of getting something smallish, so something like these perhaps http://www.harveynorman.com.au/yamah...nd-system.html But I'm a bit of an audio noob so I'm not sure if those ones are good or whatever, so I am open to suggestions. I'd like to keep the price under $700 if possible, something that would suit a small bedroom. Also a PC related question, if I do go for the receiver+speaker route, would it just be as simple as plugging the receiver to my computers motherboard via HDMI? like you would a TV home theatre? Thanks Last edited by Jimmy Bro; 07-14-2012 at 01:52 AM. |

If your room is really quite small, then consider this:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speake...er-system-Z906 Like the two systems you wrote about, it is only 500 watts and the speakers are very small. But at least it isn't trying to pretend to be a full sized receiver! |

The real downside of both versions is neither offers any sort of midnight mode (compression mode) for bringing dialogue and explosions closer into line with each other. |

If you don't need surround sound, you can get terrific 2.1 speakers for not a lot of money. Audioengine makes fabulous stuff, and comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. I'd suggest their A5+, and you could always tack on their sub later if you wanted. Or NHT's stuff. You'll get a lot better sound quality if you're investing in two or three speakers than six. Good luck with whatever direction you go!

Sorry I should have been more clear. I meant to merely point out that the Logitech is very honest in its form factor - it has a very small control box. Small because it is just an amplifier and the decoding circuitry. It isn't trying to give buyers the impression it is a full fledged receiver by using a breadbox-sized form. I like that honesty.

Iam also interested in buying PC speakers. Sorry for the noob question but how exactly do these hook up to my notebook? Do I need to also buy additional accessories?
