Exclamation Universal are bringing 50 Shades of Grey to the big screen!

We all knew it was coming, we were just afraid to admit it

Source: Den of Geek

Quote:
The producers are now in place who have to bring E L James' 50 Shades Of Grey to the big screen...

The books that have made reading a bit of how's your father acceptable in public places are heading to the movies. It had previously been revealed that E L James' 50 Shades Of Grey was heading to the big screen, with Universal and Focus Features snapping up the movie rights for $5m. Now we know whose job it is to make the film(s) happen.

The project has landed in the arms of Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. They're the pair who have each recently produced films such as The Social Network and Moneyball, and presumably it's their experience with book adaptations that's help land them the film.

A Universal statement from co-chairman Donna Langley read "At its core, Fifty Shades Of Grey is a complex love story, requiring a delicate and sophisticated hand to bring it to the big screen". We thought it was about bonking ourselves, but then history is littered with people taking different interpretations from the same stories.

The hunt is now on for screenwriters, a director and cast. A few props wouldn't do any harm, either...

I am afraid for humanity.

ETA:

And its sad to me how many young hollywood starlets WANT to play the female protagonist. Selena Gomez, Lucy Hale, etc. Like they've read the book, do they know how graphic this film is going to be? Shy away from that Disney image worse than Miley and see your career tank.
I have no tolerance for airheads.

Surely it has to be released in the 'adult' genre, otherwise it would be to watered down?

Not that I've read it....

I've started reading bits a pieces, usually comic across the worst stuff. Yeah, it pretty much emasculates into porn very rapidily.

'9 Songs' was pretty close to porn with horrible story. I think this will be much worse than that. Showing sex (explicit or not) is fine as long as it does not become pointless. If this movie really happens, better hire a good Director.

The producers had better hire a damn good screenwriter to "adapt" the novels because they'll have their work cut out for them. I only made it a fraction of the way through the first book and have yet to pick it back up. The main characters were beyond infuriating... and I'm including her "inner goddess" as one since she was constantly talking about her.

I believe this is now being heralded as the fastest selling book series of all-time.

My wife tried to tell me it was a good book. (She finally got it after hearing about it from pretty much every female friend).

The more she told me about it, the more I rolled my eyes.

It's basically complete fantasy. The guy is smart, good looking, well-.... and, he's not a "millionaire", he's a "BILLIONAIRE". He is all about this girl who is. . . wait for it. . . a virgin. When my wife told me, "This is all new to her, because she's a virgin". I rollled my eyes and said, "Well OF COURSE she is".

It's all pretty bad. However, you know, women like this stuff. Reminds me of women who watch soap operas. My stepmom is a very smart women, has her PhD, but watches Days of Our Lives. It boggles the mind.

But hey, you know, for every stupid, mind numbing Hallmark movie, soap opera, or basic fetish book that women eat up - there are guys watching really bad action movies, horror movies or bad comedies with lots of nudity.

Oh well. Looks like I'll probably be seeing this in theaters whether I like it or not.

Everyone does know the book was originally a series of Twilight fan fiction right? The author then changed the character names and changed him from a vampire to a dominant.

This book is so awful. Almost every female seems to be going on about it, including my own mother and every time I read extracts from the book I can't help but laugh. It's not erotic in the slightest, I mean she refers to her vagina as her 'sex' or 'down there.' How they're gonna turn this monstrosity of modern literature into a film is beyond me, wouldn't it just be a really bad porn flick? Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

I dont know a single thing about this book. I havent read a single thing on what it's about, and I'm really ok with that.

All I know is Ive now heard 3 different women say that after reading this book you wont feel too great about your current relationship.

Won't be shocked if Taylor Kitsch is in this, he's flopped so hard that this is the closest thing to male prostitute without actually go into male prostitution.

My girlfriend is convinced that Ryan Gosling has to play this role. She's obsessed with the books, she read all 3 in 2 days. And I've also read (2 out of the 3) and I think the big screen adaptation will fall short of the books.

The movie is going to be huge, no matter who is cast to star / direct / etc, it's being called "Mommy Porn" because women love it. I read somewhere that the author is making roughly $1 million a week because the trilogy has become so popular. So expect more and more news about this movie, because it's not going anywhere, anytime soon.

Which is a shame since John Carter was a good flick (despite the awkward prologue) and he was good in it. I would have liked for there to have been sequels.

Good movie.

I expect this movie to be very commercial and pretentious, and therefore, completely lacking in eroticism.

But who knows?
