the way they look at it - only 1/100 people will go to the lengths you did to just get your money back, so why not keep the other 99/100 people's money?

My impression is that Viacom has been particularly greedy and short-sighted (even more so than the other media conglomerates) as long as it's been owned by Sumner Redstone. My feeling is they won't change until there's been a change of ownership.

This has to be a large portion of Viacom's income. How long does this go on before they lower their demands?

I know and it is incredibly sad. I used to be lazy and just give up on these kind of fights. Now no matter how small I'll do the leg work. Even bank fees are easy to get overturned if you 'squeak' loud enough.

DirecTV says they have accepted a proposal that Viacom made regarding the 17 channels that were dropped but that Viacom is now trying to force them to carry additional channels, including the Epix channel which DirecTV says would cost more than $500 million.

Viacom, for their part, says that DirecTV's statement is a work of fiction and that they have offered numerous proposals with and without Epix. They also say the talks have moved backwards significantly.

We dropped out DishNetwork service about a year ago now and every time I come across something like this it just makes me more and more glad we did. We haven't missed it. We save over $100/month and everything we watch is somewhere on line.

I hope it's true. It's not a big deal to me personally. I have Dish and don't really watch many of those channels often at all. But I have a mother in law that lives in a nursing home. She is fully lucid, but unable to speak and unable to participate in most of the games and social activities at the home. Her main entertainment is watching TV Land most every waking moment.

Viacoma and DirecTV have come to a deal on a new carriage agreement. Terms of the deal aren't known, but DirecTV will not be carrying the Epix channel that Viacom was trying to force them to carry.
