Default Red Dawn ('84) October 9, 2012 release

Red Dawn Blu-ray

Mods feel free to move this to the Wish List if necessary!

Couldn't find an existing Red Dawn thread, so I figured I'd start one.
Well the remake is due in theaters this November, and now UK has the original up for preorder, AND it's been OTA HD for quite some time.
With all that, I can't help but feel encouraged that we will be getting a US annoucement soon!

2012 remake via IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234719/

UK BD due Nov 5th:

I hope it's coming. It had a release date in 2007 and then it was postponed indefinitely because of the remake.

Makes since to see the original released prior to the remake. I'm curious how good/bad the new version will be since it was actually filmed 3 yrs ago and shelved.........

I wouldn't think that would be the case since Fox is handling MGM's catalog titles at this point.

I would love it if this comes out!

Although despite the now uber-famous cast I'm starting to get scared that the remake might be a VOD release and not a wide theatrical release (they havn't even set a date or bothered to produce a trailer and November is only 4 months away) - and that might hinder the blu chances...

well considering Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson's current popularity and a new date of 11/21...it may get the theatrical treatment. Or VOD and a quick blu release wouldn't be so bad either. Gibson did it with Get the Gringo....

I'll buy this, but the DVD is for me like my Down By Law DVD, I have to keep it due to the fact that it's signed.

The Down By Law was signed by Jarmusch back in 2004 or so at a screening. The Red Dawn is signed by C. Thomas Howell when I worked on a TV show with him about 4 years ago. He signed it Wolverines! and his name.
My Criterion Collection

Please help me acquire these UK slips (in Mint condition): Cross Of Iron, Rasputin The Mad Monk, The Devil Rides Out

Hemsworth is pretty huge right now, so I can't see this not doing a theatrical run. Couple that with the fact that it's the remake of an 80's classic, and I think you've got a pretty good box office. Also the November release date should set far enough away from the big summer films, that it shouldn't have too much competition.

Hey, whatever helps get this thing released, ON blu-ray, IN the states!

I'm pretty sure this will be the same 2007 era film scan on a BD-25 with the MPEG-2 codec. On the plus side, the early Fox/MGM releases are free of DNR and look pretty good overall, even if they're a bit soft. I've seen the MPEG-2 HDTV broadcast of this movie and it looked very film-like with intact grain, and a decent amount of detail. I am assuming they will use the same scan, so overall I think people will enjoy it.

Mine! I'd loved this as a kid!

"I'd buy that for a dollar!" - TV Show Host, Robocop

What really happened to Farscape!
