I just saw this also, I'm really curious to how Pixar is going to play this out, I find a sequel kind of unnecessary. But who knows what Pixar is doing? I just hope they aren't pulling a cash grab. The story really doesn't seem open ended, Is Nemo going to get lost again? LOL First thought it sounds stupid, but I'm going to be optimistic.

Could this be a prequel maybe like Monsters University? Maybe the idea is: How Marlin met Coral? Otherwise its going to be something like: "In this exciting new tale Finding Nemo 2, Nemo gets lost again after this time touching a submarine, Marlin and Dory are once again set out to save him."

Hell yes we did! Not everyone thinks because you get 1 good film it all needs to stop too preserve some sense of greatness.

Well if it was Staton that came up with the idea then I'll go with it and won't hold it against Pixar or Disney.

Despite that though I am getting worried with Pixar. They're producing are too many sequels/prequels and I think it could seriously damage their reputation as a company.
Toy Story 3 was superb, both the film and the idea of doing another one.
Cars 2 seemed more like a personal ambition for Lasseter than something that was worth doing.
Monsters University I am excited for as Monsters, Inc. has always been my favourite Pixar film and I don't think there's any harm in a second one.

Even if it's true it was Staton's idea it does make you wonder now what's to stop them doing sequels or prequels to all their films. Out of all of them Finding Nemo is the last one I would have chosen, so this could give Disney too many ideas to cash-in on all their older films.

Its not one or the other though. You aren't selling out making sequels, if you are giving a large percent of a fan base more of what they love. Now if its a direct to blu 7.99 release say... Nemo 10: This time its personal, thats different, but if its a quality attempt to both make money and give fans more, I just find it odd how many people are staunchly against sequels/ prequels.

The only film I could see them doing a sequel to that they haven't is A Bug's Life and Incredibles, but a bugs life doesn't need a sequel, and neither of them have to have one. But hey, they're making a sequel to Finding Nemo, and I thought they'd never do that.

Marlin, Dory and Nemo are getting ready for another big screen adventure as Deadline reports that the original Finding Nemo's writer and director, Andrew Stanton, is set to return for a sequel based on his own original concept.

Stanton, who earlier this year directed Disney's John Carter, has up until very recently, been quite reluctant to return to the underwater world of his 2003 film.

"[A sequel has] always kind of put a bad taste in my mouth," Stanton told ComingSoon.net earlier this year, "because I never planned for that... We have said this at Pixar now. We've kind of come to terms with it. We're not against a sequel being made as long as it's a story we love so much that we'd be dying just to make it, so we're just waiting for stories to tell us if it's worthy of doing. Right now, I've never been able to think of anything beyond what 'Nemo' was on its own."

Whatever the idea is that changed his mind, the Nemo sequel will follow in the footsteps of Pixar sequels like Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Cars 2 and the upcoming prequel Monsters University. The studio's original slate, meanwhile, is targeting Bob Peterson's The Good Dinosaur for May 30, 2014 and Pete Docter's still-untitled project for June 19, 2015. Lee Unkrich is also working on a Dia de los Muertos-themed film for an unspecified future date as well.

The original Finding Nemo is also set for a return to theaters in 3D on September 14th of this year.

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter is now bringing word that newcomer Victoria Strouse is writing the screenplay with Lyndsey Collins producing for a potential 2016 release.

The question is though does the majority of the fan base want another Nemo film? Because up until this new came along I don't think anyone expected Pixar to make a sequel to Nemo because it didn't need it.

The point is instead of Nemo 2 we could be having another original film, something which Pixar really need to get back to doing on a regular basis. The thing is they might not have any of those landmark ideas, and they might be better able to deliver a quality story by going back to things they know (cars 2 excluded ). I'd rather they take another 5+ years of sequels, and get a truly great film that becomes something people want a franchise for, then give us new movies that may not live up to what they've pumped out (which I think Brave is an example of, I have no desire to want to pick that film up when it comes out... personally speaking ).

Now its not a 1 for 1 in anyway; a new fresh franchise isn't a guaranteed hit, because they didn't do sequels, and because they did a fresh movie the sequels aren't coming or they're going to suck.

Pixar is not Dreamworks. I feel like if they are going to make a sequel, it's because they have a story to tell. Even though Cars 2 was one of their lesser films, I thought it maintained or improved upon Cars (which was the least of their films IMHO). Toy Story 2 and 3 maintained or improved upon the original.

I'm happy that Pixar tends to withold sequels until the creators come to THEM with a good idea.

I'm sure I've said it 100 times, but if Dreamworks had done The Incredibles, there would be a 4th Incredibles movie by now, and the latter 3 would have diminished the first.

I've just never been a fan of any of their movies so I can't comment on diminished return, but unless its just downright awful I think I'd be happy with 3 Incredible movies. Although I'm sure if they had done the movie it wouldn't be nearly as incredible (pun intended )
