Default New (SOLID!) Eco Cases!

Picked up Outland from Wal-Mart earlier today, case felt pretty flimsy so I figured it was an eco case.

Upon opening it, I found it was a Viva eco-case, except instead of having the cutouts, it was just thinner plastic with the recycle logo stamped into the case (just like the Vortex eco cases).

Are these widespread?

Yes, I STILL BUY DVDs! Any DVD with extras not ported to the blu-ray is STILL WORTH BUYING!

Most recent blu-rays: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Triple Feature (April 26), Star Trek: The Original Series, Season 1 (April 20)

Since we're on the topic of Eco Cases... I have always wondered... WHY DO PEOPLE HATE THEM SO MUCH?! I don't get it. It's just plastic.

I don't mind them. Some people are just careless with their Blu-rays.

Because they look and feel cheap and flimsy.

The only time they bother me is when rough handling during shipping results in tears/puntures to the cover.

Aside from that I'm not crazy about them but I can live with them.

Because sometimes during shipping you will recieve a Blu with a hole punched through the coverart. Besides that they don't really bother me.

That has never happened to me with eco cases. I guess some people are just unfortunate.

I hate them because they pretty much ensure that the cover art will be damaged by the time it gets to me.

More than half the blu-rays I buy that come in eco cases (usually catalog titles) have big creases/holes/tears where the plastic is cut away. It's always a matter of picking the least damaged one on the shelf.

Way back when I used to try 2-3 stores, only to wind up getting one with a 1/2 inch crease instead of a 1 inch crease or a hole in the cover, now I can't be bothered.

At least with these new cases it's kind of impossible to punch through the cover art (unless you also punch through the case )

That is a good point. I guess I've just been lucky about that not happening to me. So far, that is.

Is an eco-case a standard bluray casebecause I've never had a problem with it. That's nice about different kinds of cases though

This.

Figures, DVD cases were larger then BD cases, yet we have to have cut outs in the smaller cases. The eco cases don't overly bother me. But... I definitely prefer a more sturdy case.

yes those are new eco Elite cases--the days of the true "wagon-wheel"--the ones with the actual holes in them-- seem to be numbered.
I noticed that the "new" marilyn monroe titles were still "wagon-wheel" ecos though.
I think they are just leftover stock though; I think the case you are talking about is the new elite eco case.

I'm a supporter of eco cases but understand their limitations. This sounds like a smart alternative.

Eco-cases almost always produce holes or punches in the cover art, at stores like Walmart. When the employee stocking the shelves crams 10 units into an ill-designed space, it's easy to damage the flimsy eco-case.

I've never once gotten a punctured eco case.

However I still don't like them because they are flimsy. Whenever I get around to it I will replace them with solid cases. I should probably do that before solid cases aren't even available anymore, or are all replaced by these "hybrid" eco cases.

I don't like the old eco cases because there is a possibility of dust I like the new eco-cases though.

I've only noticed a few of my blu-rays with the new Viva Elite eco cases, and they were all Universal releases.
