Wow! I never expected to see Mr Bongo to go Blu, considering the extremely inconsistent quality of their DVDs but - if they can do it well - I'm not complaining

I have the US blu release, but I'd consider double dipping if this disc has improved contrast, as the US transfer looks very washed out.

I sent off an e-mail to Mr. Bongo, enquiring about their plans for Blu-Ray. The response was:

Quote:
Many Thanks for your enquiry. We are indeed releasing Sante Sangre on DVD which is a first for us! Obviously it will introduce us to the process for releasing things on Blu-Ray which will give us more options on future releases but so far we are not planning on releasing the Bongo back catalogue on that format*. That said, we will register your interest and if enough people seem keen we may look into doing it in future.
Keep Enjoying the films!
*I singled out L'avventura, Falstaff and the Glauber Rocha films in my e-mail.

So, if you want to register your interest, give them an e-mail.

Another thing that irritates me is that the English subtitles are for the hearing impaired. I wanted to listen to the Spanish dub one day and I couldn't sit through all the sound effects being typed out on the screen.

I've read that that is what the film is supposed to look like.

And I've read Jodorowsky is unhappy with how the final product looks. But I don't know what's true.

Me too.

I kept toggling the settings on my TV trying to make it look right and just couldn't. Very frustrating.

The contrast on the Severin release actually made me hold off in hopes of something else. I personally would love to see this release closer in line with the color of the UK Anchor Bay DVD, regardless of what even Jodorowsky himself prefers.

I really liked the look of the Severin blu...but I've held onto the UK DVD for any future comparisons.

What I really love about the US release are the extras, which I find pretty extensive and didn't expect for there to be so many of for such a film. I'd be interested to see what the extras for this UK release would be, and how they compare to that one.

Or 'El Sveterino', if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Here are the special features: http://www.killeraphrodite.com/2012/...on-dvd-bluray/

I read an online review of the BD a few days ago which specifically mentioned that it was the best it has ever looked and that it looked better than the US release, but I cannot seem to find the link. Reviews should start showing up soon, though.
