That's exactly what I was expecting: a 60th Anniversary Edition in February (Alice/Peter) before the next Diamond Edition in March (Bambi/Aladdin). The Platinum DVD had solid features but felt rather lightweight overall. If Disney can port over all those supplements (on disc, please, not via the wretched Virtual Vault), create a new documentary/PiP feature, add additional deleted songs known to exist, and dig up The Walt Disney Christmas Show and trailers, it'll be a very strong release. Disney's definitely going to treat this film with more respect than the summer catalogue titles from this year, so (as with Alice in Wonderland), I'm expecting new supplements to be produced. Let's see what happens.

I caught that, too. This is NOT the animated Peter Pan (1953). Instead Aladdin is due to be released for Spring 2013.

Then again, the Cathy Rigby isn't from 1953.
(Nor does Disney own it, and the TV special isn't likely to be upgraded to Blu.)

Let's just take the most common answer: Wal-mart.com is just too danged messed up to get your release dates from.

When I originally posted the link there was no cover art, Walmart updated it over night, but I believe they have it incorrect, I don't really know if Disney has anything to do with it, but the link says its buena vista pictures and every other country is getting it on blu-ray. I would assume its not a digital source, and its tape, but I could be wrong. If that was the case it wouldn't be coming to blu-ray unless it was upconverted. Overall i would say its pretty safe to assume its the animated version

Well I'm glad that we're getting all the Platnium/Big Name titles out of the way I just hope that they don't cheap out on the restoration.

I don't know what chagned in Disney where the blu ray/restoration seemed like a huge deal and now it seems their releases are bareboned and cheap.

Cinderella is getting taht "big" treatment as if you go in the stores it's all over the place that makes it feel like a "big" release.

Honestly, besides packaging, all Diamond Edition films from Lady and the Tramp forward excluding the Little Mermaid, should use the same restoration as the platinum. So in reality, all the diamond edition label is now is a title, they have the "prestigous" transfers done, they keep reusing the same ones. Lady and the tramp, Cinderella, and the European 101 Dalmations releases all used the same transfer as the platinum release.

The idea that the broadway musical would have a Wal-Mart exclusive release that includes some kind of "figurine" (and would be a Combo pack and have a $39.99 MSRP) is kind of ridiculous, so I'm leaning toward the animated film here... That or someone at Wal-Mart was on drugs.
