Grand Hotel Blu-ray
Grand Hotel Blu-ray review "People come. People go. Nothing ever happens," one world-weary patron (Lewis Stone) of Berlin's finest hotel comments. Movie audiences knew better. They were witnessing the glorious comings, goings and intersecting stories of a starry array billed as "the greatest cast on stage or screen history!" Ruined aristocrat John Barrymore. Terminally ill clerk Lionel Barrymore. Ruthless tycoon Wallace Beery. Scheming stenographer Joan Crawford. And disillusioned ballerina Greta Garbo. Teaming them was a masterstroke whose success fostered more star-packed extravaganzas. The radiant film captured the 1931-32 Best Picture Academy Award. What a grand showcase of the allure and style of classic moviemaking! Jan 8th release date Last edited by MichaelR; 01-14-2013 at 03:44 PM. |

Nice can't wait to see what other catalog classics WB's intends to release in 2013
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.

Yup. And Harlow, and Cagney, and Stanwyck, and Astair & Rogers, and...
Warner's is planning big releases for next year's anniversary, much like Universal and Paramount (to a lesser extent) did during this one. Hopefully there will be strong representation from Hollywood's Golden Age therein, as their catalog of these titles runs deeper and wider than any other studio's.

Awesome! One I've never seen it but I go out of my way to get B&W on Blu. Gotta love Garbo

I am a big fan of this movie, even though some parts of it are definitely creaky. Barrymore (John) and Crawford (especially) give the best performances IMO but all of the cast is good.
It will be interesting to see how this looks. I have the DVD and most of the film source used looks to be in very good shape, but one segment (I'm guessing an entire reel, or ten minutes) looks as if it comes from a lesser-quality dupe. If WB have been able to find a better source for this material or perform some non-intrusive digital wizardry the whole thing can look great. Last edited by obscurelabel; 09-19-2012 at 03:59 PM. |

Went ahead and pre-ordered along with 'Mrs Miniver'. Never seen 'Mrs. Miniver' but looking forward to it. Love the artwork on both.

What's with this place deleting posts with links to other review sites? Absolutely ridiculous.
