Blu-ray Samurai

Please remember, don't shoot the messenger on this one... WB has announced for 2013 that they will release The Wizard of Oz in 3D on Blu-ray. from darkhorizons.com: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has unveiled some impressive plans for next year's 90th anniversary celebration of the studio. First up "The Wizard of Oz" will get a 3D treatment next year for both a theatrical re-release and a new 3D Blu-ray disc release. Also on the way are gigantic 100-film DVD and 50-film Blu-ray collections featuring multiple Best Picture Oscar winners. There's also a 40-film Clint Eastwood DVD collection with a documentary on the actor and filmmaker. It's being called the largest film collection devoted to a single actor and director in the history of the business. Plenty of classic titles will make the jump to Blu-ray including "The Jazz Singer," "Cabaret," "Grand Hotel," "Mrs. Miniver," "Driving Miss Daisy" and their James Dean trilogy of "East of Eden," "Rebel without a Cause" and "Giant". http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/251...ary-disc-plans Last edited by Deciazulado; 05-06-2013 at 08:54 PM. |

I'll give the 3D theatrical viewing a go. But, I am not double dipping on Wizard of Oz.

I'm sure it's probably popped up somewhere in some discussion at Warner Bros. Like I said, I'll give the theatrical 3D conversion a go. I wasn't too thrilled with the 3D conversion of Finding Nemo, even though that's a Disney film.

I AGREE. They should leave the classics just the way they are. Will not double dip even if they do a remake, it's just WRONG.
I'm very happy where 3-D is going, which is that it's becoming a choice - and thankfully, most people are still choosing 2-D.

Very interested to know if they'll retain the aspect ratio or crop it to 16x9 for the 3D conversion.

I'm so torn.
I really don't give a hoot about 3-D (I've been accused of being "anti-3D before), but...the idea of Oz in 3-D intrigues me. If it's done really really well, I'll give it a spin. Either way, I'll buy whatever edition they make - I mean, it's OZ!

Not going to lie I'm not so supportive of Wizard in 3D since there already is a technical masterpiece (not to mention I doubt Wizard would even benefit from it) but that's really cool about The Jazz Singer

I got a little too excited thinking the Jazz Singer was the Neil Diamond version!

So is Wizard of Oz only getting a 3D re-release next year, because I wanted to buy the Emerald 3-Disc Edition?

Won't anybody think of the CHILDREN!!
Leave the classics alone or our children won't know how these things were supposed to look!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Don't like the idea--don't buy it. enough people don't buy/see it--they will stop. Market place will decide. Remember the Circuit City DIVX format. It wasn't people complaining about it that killed it--it was lack of sales. |

The real question, as someone else pointed out, is whether or not they will re-frame it for 1.78:1 and cut off a chunk of the picture. |
