For starters, I have no desire to own any of the Bond films with Moore, Dalton or Brosnan. Lets face it - after Thunderball they started to get just plain silly and a far cry from anything that Ian Flemming ever wrote (although On Her Majesty's Secret Service thankfully eschewed anything having to do with outer space). After having been very, very pleased with the BluRay restorations of the first four Connery titles I was looking forward to Diamonds Are Forever (silly or not). What a let-down. I don't think there is a single scene or shot that is any sharper than the DVD. Colors are washed out and (in some cases) faded. I doubt that "they" have done anything to improve the audio. Since it is a Wal-Mart exclusive at $9.96 I guess I shouldn't complain too much, but it makes me wonder what kind of treatment the 10/3 BestBuy exclusives (You Only Live Twice and ONHMSS) have received - and Yes, I'll probably buy those too - with my fingers crossed.

Transfer looked great to me - miles ahead of my old DVD. Not sure what you're seeing...
Also, there's already a massive Bond thread that this should be attached to.

Perhaps he needs a seeing eye dog, a pair of sunglasses and a cane.

One of the weakest in the series. It's like a Roger Moore Bond starring Sean Connery.
As for the Blu-ray, I watched a little of it last night and it looks good. I just wish the mono track was in lossless since the disc retains the 5.1 remix from the DVD that has brand new sound FX. That has me worried for On Her Majesty's Secret Service which suffered from the same issue(the gunshots at the end sounded completely different in the 5.1 track). |

I also feel that the PQ was a major disappointment, especially compared to the other Bonds I have on BD. The Blu-ray.com review was MUCH too lenient. The movie, of course, is a piece of crap anyway...Jill St. John is about 10 years too old to be a Bond girl, and Jimmy Dean is (was) much better at sausages then he is (was) at acting.

You lost me with your very first sentence, where you're critiquing other Bond films... in a thread dedicated to one of the weakest of the entire series. I could definitely pick one or two that are worse... but I'm not sure I could pick three.
(And, yeah, the PQ is pretty solid on this one.) |
