It is not news. It was announced on February 22, 2012. The only problem is that Severin kept changing the release date.

This was still news to me, and good news at that.
A childhood favourite of mine, Ashanti is a good thriller with a stellar cast and good location footage. I was about 8 when this movie first appeared in my father's video collection, taped from ITV or channel4 in the UK. I found the action the be quite rousing at the time. In the ensuing years I have been frustrated by trying to hunt down this film uncut on DVD. Compared to the UK televised taping, the US DVD is cut, the UK DVD is cut, the Scandinavian DVD is cut. In fact, they all look to come from the same master. Several shootings are truncated, like a sanitised US TV cut. The nudity remains, though. I'm hoping Severin has gone back and done a new transfer, so we get the full cinema version. I had all but given it up. |

Learning that Ashanti and The Wild Geese are both MPEG-2 is disappointing. But I seem to recall both were listed as more recent codecs prior to these reviews. It would not have changed my pre-order, especially for The Wild Geese, but I am curious if Severin put out misinformation? Or was there really no information on codecs and listings were assumed?
