Well, at least it didn't cost that much to produce. I have a feeling it'll end up a nice profit deal when all is said and done

It should easily make its money back in home-video sales, but still to have only made $28m is likely viewed as a disappointment. What baffles me is how Hotel Transylvania made 3x as much domestically in the same amount of time...

A.) It came out a week earlier, targeting the exact same audience.

B.) Celebrity voices, led by Adam Sandler.

C.) CGI just plain sells more tickets than stop-motion.

Isn't casting Adam Sandler these days just telegraphing that your film is aimed at the very lowest common denominator?

It actually cost $39 million, but they did advertise the hell out of it. Even then, I doubt they spent more than $60 million on production + marketing.

So? There are a lot of dumb people out there who still buy tickets for Sandler movies (even if his last movie flopped). And kids don't really care.

Can't wait to own this one! I fell in love with the animation and heart put into this flick. A real shame that it hasn't done more at the box-office, too many people are missing out on it. I may end up seeing it again in theaters while it's still around actually.

I actually did take my kids (9 and 5 years old) to see this. My biggest hesitation was with the movie being in black and white, and if it would hold their attention.

I almost forgot:

E.) Do kids (or parents) want to see a movie where a dog dies?

No spoiler tags needed for this one, since the movie was heavily advertised as its main premise. I remember having a knot of sorts with waiting to see how they would kill a family dog in a kids movie.

The movie was very good and had a lot of references to past horror icons. However, for as many people as there were in the theater, I found it odd at how quiet everyone was. I kind of felt the dampered mood of the crowd had to do with the dog dying.

With all that being said, I will be adding Frankenweenie to my blu-ray collection.

Typically advertising is approximately 50% of the total budget

I really wanted to see this in the theater having seen the original some years ago and was interested in seeing how they would stretch out this film over a length of time. From the trailers I've seen of it, yeah it looks like they included some extra padding but it stays on track of the main premise which is always good to me. I've heard a lot of good reviews about this film so I look forward to seeing this when it is finally released.

Well..

This might have been the darkest kids movie I have scene so far, I need to re-watch The Black Cauldren to check. I am referring to Disney BTW..

[Show spoiler]The Vampire Cat's death alone was so graphic, I didn't expect them to show us.

I think the idea alone behind the movie is disturbing to some people, bringing life back from the dead..

Not to mention the

[Show spoiler]atrocious ending we got that didn't teach children anything.. So much for getting my hopes up when Sparky ran away because he was shitless scared cause he was alive. They shouldn't have brought him back!
