I'm actually going to go see this in theaters this Saturday with a friend (I was waiting until it got closer to Halloween ). If I like it, I'll probably pre-order.

If it were anyone else but Adam Sandler, I'd likely be interested in this, but the Time Out review only confirmed my worries:

Quote:
No one does saccharine like Adam Sandler. The man can be sharp, angry and funny – but when he lays on the sweetness, it’s like drowning in an avalanche of Tate & Lyle. Even in animated form, as the voice of the world’s most famous bloodsucker, Sandler achieves sickening levels of ickiness and so sinks this otherwise pleasurable cartoon romp. He’s Count Dracula, owner of a hotel for ghouls, and on the eve of his daughter’s 118th birthday, he starts to fear that she’ll leave him for the big, bad world. There’s plenty to like: the animation is crisp and the action well designed, and a few of the supporting characters – notably Steve Buscemi’s put-upon Wolf Man – are memorable. But the script – co-written, astonishingly, by former ‘The Day Today’ scribe Peter Baynham – is a morass of lazy father-daughter clichés, and it climaxes with the most stomach-churning song-and-dance sequence this side of ‘High School Musical’.
It's a pity, as this one looked like it had some potential.

I personally feel that Adam Sandler has gone downhill since Big Daddy.

My wife wants to see this but it took a beating on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviews said it was dumbed down to fart jokes and such. I had high hopes for this but will now rent first.

I took the kids to see this one last weekend, and I actually thought the first half of this movie was really good, but it it got progressively worse and was a pretty crappy movie by the end.

Saw it two weekends ago, really enjoyed it (I know, I know the reviews all say it's horrible I should be hating this movie) probably going to wait a while before buying it, animation movies have crazy prices up here on first release

I thought this was the funniest animated film of the year, and regardless of my personal opinion, it's certainly the most visually innovative.

We're so used to realistic worlds and realistic movement in our animated films. This movie clearly embraced the fact that it's animated, and the result is pure eye candy.

I can't wait to own it in HD.

Agree. I haven't seen the film itself yet, so I can't speak as to the content, but this has got to be one of the most refreshingly cartoony movies in a long time. Not that the other major CGI flicks are completely grounded in reality and real-world physics, but I absolutely agree that the movements of the characters in many them are fairly restricted to reality, which admittedly works in context for a lot of them. However, the characters in this movie are animated with such exaggeration and cartooniness that you just don't see much of in animated feature films, so it just comes off as a breath of fresh air.

I'd say another refreshingly cartoony movie from recent memory is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, also by Sony Pictures Animation. But Hotel Transylvania clearly tops it in that respect. Still really looking forward to actually seeing it.
