Quote:
Almost twenty years in the making, THE QUIET MAN (1952) is perhaps the most personal film of director John Ford's long and illustrious Hollywood career as well as one of his great achievements. Unburdened with messages or social commentary, the film is a simple tale of human relationships, colored by Ford's ever-present nostalgia about his Irish heritage and peopled by a group of actors whose personal chemistry contributes such warmth and vitality to their relationships, it is clear their characters emanate from something deeper than a film script. Humorous, romantic, lively, endearing and lovingly photographed on location in Ireland, THE QUIET MAN is cinematic story-telling at its finest -- transparent, unpretentious and beautiful.

A booklet! From Olive! It's just a shame they ignored Tag Gallagher's offer of free extras when he offered them. You can get his terrific book on Ford for free here

Love the art, but I still want to wait for reviews.

Been burned before with Quiet Man . Although Olive should be very aware of all the discussion that has happened on this title on DVD.

Still good news, cannot deny that.

This is a must get. It will undoubtedly be superior to the Artisan release.

I've never seen it either but I remember it being on in the house many a time growing up as my mum really did like it.
I will probably pick it up at some stage.

The whole movie is excellent, but there's nothing else in it that is like that scene, which could be straight from one of his silents.

I would have waited for reviews, but there's a 3-day special price going on and I really want to get a good copy of this before March 17th; pre-order placed:

http://classicflix.blogspot.com/2012...rd-blu-in.html

I am nervous about how good the transfer will be. Surely, they must know how awful the DVD versions have been and that anything less than "really good" will be, shall we say, frowned upon.

Finally my dream come true. All the dvds of this title in the past were not satisfactory. Blurry, colors strips of technicolor were really messed up. I sincerely hope that the blue ray release would compensate all the defects of the past release.

Also I am crossing my fingers for another Ford's masterpiece (Sun Shines Bright) blue ray release (why not it is another Republic picture) in the near future.

I have been waiting for this since I first started purchasing blu-rays! This is my all-time favorite film! I used to watch it with my parents when I was growing up (and then still later as an adult).

It's a 4K scan from the original negative, I wouldn't worry about it.

My only concern is that each release has touted restoration of some sort, but the results have been disappointing.

Olive should know that there would be an expectation of much here.

hopefully they used that software that aligns 3 strip films perfectly.
cannot wait to see how this looks.
the dvd is undoubtedly one of the top 3 worst dvds of all time imo.
(tied with Nashville in my book, and pretty much unwatchable)

Please, please, PLEASE don't screw this up! The current DVD looks like videotape. I love to watch this around St. Patrick's day, but it gets more difficult every year to watch it without cringing. This movie should look great on blu-ray; please let it be so! I had almost given up all hope of ever seeing a release worthy of this film's greatness!

I guess I'll have to hold onto the DVD for the commentary anyway.
