Hopefully this will be region free or at least get a US release. Maybe we'll see the rumored live blu ray soon.

Excellent, will have to get this, though I wonder if any will be cut/censored, especially considering it's a German release.

Today Rammstein announces the release of their video collection "Videos 1995 – 2012" on December 14th, 2012.

The retrospective includes the band’s complete video catalog, making of for each video plus 2 unreleased videos for the song "Mein Herz brennt".

"Mein Herz brennt", from the 2001 album "Mutter", comes out as a single for the video collection on December 7th, 2012. Especially for this release a new piano version of the song has been recorded. The single also includes the previously unreleased track "Gib mir Deine Augen".

The video of "Mein Herz brennt – Piano Version" will premiere on the Rammstein website on December 7th, 2012!

Even if the video is not, I would assume the audio will be, which is probably the main selling point--Rammstein in lossless audio.

Why do you think it wont be a "real" blu-ray release?
Both video and audio will be presented in HD format. All of their original material still exist, so they can just re-master their o-neg or seperation masters.

I don't think those videos from the 90's were filmed, or at least their making-offs. Hopefully I'm wrong, and they decided to spend a lot of money to film some videos no one would have been able to see at their full resolution until 15 years later.

I have the 2 DVDs in the Made in Germany box set that had all the videos and they werent bad quality but hopefuly the Blu will be steps above those. I really hope the new Live Concert video coming next year sees Blu. Tired of all these Rammstein DVD releases Need HD

What do you mean? Digital technology didn't exist back then, so they still have those 35mm o-negs or seperation masters.
Not to mention that a 35mm film has greater resolution than today's HD digital recorders. (Yes I know there are digital cameras with 5-6K resolution, but that's another story.)

Honestly, I don't see why Rammstein would release their (to my knowledge) first bluray and NOT push it to 1080p. I just wish they'd open preorders for the US already.

Almost every concert is shot on video, that's why the clamshells list 1080i on the back. I have not seen any concert on blu-ray listing 1080p.

Well, 1080i is still way better than standard DVD, yes?

I just hope it's not a distractingly disappointing picture quality, and that the audio is absolutely amazing (like their music).

I really wanted to get Made in Germany, but the price was too high and my wife made me choose between getting MiG or seeing them live in San Antonio (for the first time)... I gladly chose to see them live.

Also interested to see the price point, EUR to USD seems to be hovering between $30-40. Hopefully it won't get sold out to scalpers before I can get a copy reserved.

No the picture quality will or should be the same as any other concert. Video was and is used a lot for those who don't want to manipulate the image like you can with film. With film, you can alter tint, black levels, contrast etc whereas video was just used as is... like on sporting events or even soap operas. One did not change the look of video, you got what you shot. Film can be purchased in many different varieties and forms with different rates and values depending on what the director or director of photography wants.

Overall, videographers were not as highly regarded as film people because film is still more difficult or time consuming to work with. However one can achieve so many varied results using film.

I used to shoot and edit broadcast quality betacamSP and worked with quite a few filmmakers while living in California from 1986 to 1993.

All Rammstein videos were shot in 16:9 if I'm not mistaken, here's hoping they were shot on film as well. I don't expect all the BTSs to be in HD by any means but I'll be pretty chuffed if all the videos are. I can't see them releasing a blu ray if most of the music videos aren't in HD.

As for the videos themselves, well I've been waiting for Rammstein to release a set like this for a long, long time. Most bands I wouldn't care about a video collection but every Rammstein video is like an event. Keine Lust is probably my favourite music video of all time. It embodies everything that's great about Rammstein. It's over the top, humourous, has great music and things on fire.

This is a band that has always put a lot of effort into their visual presentation, let's hope similar effort is put into the visual presentation of this blu.

Not all the info looks complete, and the studios/formats are different, (ie: the Bluray says "Widescreen/Import" and the dvd says "Color/NTSC")

I assume since it's posted on the American site for Amazon, that it's the correct version, but that release date is wrong. I assume the "widescreen import" is normal since the band is German, but I can't see where it says what region code. Hope it's the right one.

So is anyone getting this December 14th? Would love to know more about it. Which videos get the HD treatment etc.

Did anyone have the Made in Germany DVDs which this is, for the most part, a repackage of? What were the run times?

EDIT: The fact that the DVD and Blu Ray seem to be the same price doesn't give me great hope as to the quality of the Blu. The Blu Ray is also on two discs instead of three. I know it's just a bunch of music videos but surely the Making Ofs will take up a fair amount of space. Even though they are less likely to be in true HD, I imagine they'll take up a large part of the run time.

What sucks about bringing back 80s/90s music videos is this:

Unless they look like a news broadcast or something, they were shot on film. It sounds like a pain in the ass by 2012 standards, but it was the only way to make great looking videos then (and there was a LOT more money in music video budgets). The film was telecined and edited usually at 960x540 on Digibeta tapes. They were delivered to the record labels this way, and broadcasted at 720x480 - TVs being all 4:3.

A lot of the time, the record labels would throw away the film elements after the project was finished and delivered because they simply didn't need them anymore. Every foot of film was being archived on Digibeta, and there was no medium to show them in any higher quality than that, so what's the point? I'm sure a good lot threw them in a storage closet, though, so there's hope in that.

If you remember that "Michael Jackson's Vision" box set a few years ago - with every MJ music video in it - it was still in pretty crummy SD quality. If they had the ability to put out a blu-ray version with the videos in true HD, they would have.

I'm hoping this whole box set is a miraculous situation where Rammstein/their label saved the original film elements and re-digitized their videos in HD. That really would be amazing, because that would be the first time I've ever heard of that. I'll wait for reviews to see if it's legit or just upscaled SD videos.
