Samsung BD-P1000 problems?

Hi, anyone else notice the problems I am having with the BD-P1000?
1. The pop-up menus are partially off the screen. They appear to be too high (or low) and wide. T2 and Hitch put the group clear off the screen.
2. Lionsgate Blu-Ray discs look like they drop frames. The two I have (T2 and The Punisher) "stutter" all the way through.
3. A couple of times with Underworld: Evolution, after using the pop-up menu to change audio, the picture locked-up, broke-up, and then continued fine. I backed-up the disc and it played fine. If they want to play the movie while performing other tasks, they should make sure they can process them both without dropping data.

I have tried this through the composite connection at 1080i and through the HDMI (via an Ophit DDA going into the RGB connector on my Pioneer Elite Pro 720HD).

I reported the problems to Samsung and I can't even fine out if they have tested any of it.

I've heard of the stutter issue and supposedly it's only when the DTS track is selected. Which leads me to think it's the player causing these problems.

I'm guessing a Firmware update should resolve these issues (along with the soft picture complaints)

Well I popped in T2 and tried it with Dolby EX and there were no dropped frames (no "stutter"). I always watch Sony discs with uncompressed PCM so maybe they "stutter" with DTS too. Thanks!

Not anymore. I brought mine back. I'm waiting for the Pioneer.

I'm pretty happy with my Samsung P1000, although I definately think it's the "Basic Blu Ray Player". Absolute minimum you need to do to be a Blu Ray Player. In many ways it's feature set is more basic than the giant Pioneer DVD player I bought about 7 years ago I guess.

I can understand people waiting on the Pioneer and paying that extra bit of cash, absolutely.

I like mine too. When a better one with additional significant features come out, I'll buy that one and sell my Samsung on to someone else and recoup maybe 40% of my expense, and would consider it worth it. I'll definitely hang onto the Samsung until an HDMI 1.3 player arrives in some form.

When folks ask about Blu Ray I tell them the reasonable value of the Samsung player is maybe $350-$400 so if it drops to that range, it might be worth jumping in. The other $600 is frankly just an early-adopter tax so don't assume you're getting $1000 worth of hardware in there...

you are getting pretty close to 1k worth of hardware. But it hasn't been tweaker to perfection yet.

Ok, poor choice of words. I guess I feel that a fair price for what the hardware/box does is around 350-400 bucks. Obviously their cost of goods is pretty high right now because yields are low and there are a limited number of the optical pickups and so on... So $400 is what it ought to cost, and $600 premium for getting it sooner than most folks.

OK, I just spent the day recalibrating my Pioneer Elite Pro 720HD television (and I mean all day). The best I could do (and still be able to view non-1080 material properly) was to have half of the tab bar for Hitch and Terminator 2 cut-off. The BD-P1000 puts the menus all the way to the maximum edge of the image allowing for no overscan. New digital TVs will probably handle this fine, but older sets may not (and please don’t tell me to throw out my $8000 TV and buy something else). My Toshiba HD-XA1 looks great however. Even the small icons in the top right corner are fine (not to mention the fact that the picture quality is MUCH better than that of the BD-P1000).
