February 26 is two days after the Oscars. I would guess that by releasing it on that date they are expecting to have plenty of Oscar success.

Seems like good marketing. I have yet to see the movie, but certainly am excited to see Daniel Day-Lewis work his magic!

And they will push it back if it gets certain nominations, so that they can change the cover art.

Really looking forward to picking this up, it was a great watch. Since Touchstone will be handling distribution I have no doubt that it'll be a great release equipped with extras and a nice slipcover similar to how "War Horse" was handled.

Retail hype has zero to do with the Oscars, nor does popular opinion of the movie for that matter. The Oscars are determined by roughly 6000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Day 1 purchase for me! The best movie of the year and Daniel Day-Lewis will get the Oscar for best actor!

Trivia: No Speilberg directed movie has ever won an Oscar for any best acting category! That "curse" is about to end!

Disagree 100%. There are several films I wouldn't normally see, but due to an Oscar nom, I do. This last year? Albert Nobbs, The Artist, Beginners, Margin Call, A Separation, etc... Some of the best of the year!

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't think so. The Oscars have a huge economic impact. Sure, the voting members get free copies, but I'm not one of them, so I have to pay to see it. Lincoln I'm seeing no matter what, but I'm sure a few noms will influence many people.

Day 1 here. First hour of the movie was a bit slow but it picks up. Daniel Day Lewis does an amazing job in this movie. Best Actor Oscar fo sho
