Found this on the full release calendar on DisneyDVD.com. Looks like March 12th is going to be a VERY busy day. I will probably buy this because the animation is FANTASTIC. However, I'm not a huge fan of the actual film.

All of the above are scheduled for March 12, 2013... Talk about one wild release date! I can't wait

Only buying this b/c of the HD transfer. I own the CE and I'm sure 99.99% those special features are not even going to make it on blu-ray.

Still waiting for Tarzan and Hercules blu-rays. Glad that HOND finally is going to be release on blu-ray.

Well, nice witty creative thread-crap , but yes, to keep from anyone shooting the messenger, the thing's a pretty sad mess. One of those movies where you're a half hour in waiting for the story to "start".

(Not their fault, though, just they didn't have enough production time or budget to do the story the directors wanted to do--So they had to quickly fill time by spending large portions of the first half showing us what unsympathetic nutcases and bullies the rest of the mission crew were. )

I actually enjoyed that first film. Altantis is a great film. It kind of reminded me of an animated version of the Stargate film.

I'm going to guess that the 1.33:1 version is on the DVD. I mean, what's the point of releasing a 4:3 version in HD when basically every HDTV available is 16:9?

Yeah, the dvd had both the 1.33 and 2.35 versions.

The characters LOOKED good, in that they tried to experiment with Mike Mignola giving the character design an action-comic-book look. Unfortunately, they had to go and open their mouths and ruin it.
Fortunately, we now have the animated Hellboy series to show us how good Mignola action looks like in cartoon.

(The story was that the studio wanted to do "Journey to the Center of the Earth", but Trousdale & Wise thought the story didn't have enough monster attacks in it, so they tried to write their own faux-Verne story that did. And then most of the scenes they thought up never had time or budget to be animated, leaving us with....not much.)
