Rolling Thunder Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

NEWS/TRAILER
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=10189

Quote:
Shout Factory has revealed that it is planning to bring to Blu-ray John Flynn's cult film Rolling Thunder (1977), starring William Devane, Tommy Lee Jones and Linda Haynes. The release will be available for purchase online and in stores across the United States on April 9th.

Exact technical specs and supplemental features to be included on this release are yet to be revealed.

A revered revenge classic co-written by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) and starring William Devane in a stoic performance as Major Charles Rane, a man who has been pushed beyond his limits during an eight year incarceration in the Hanoi Hilton. He returns to his Texas hometown with his friend Sergeant Vohden (Tommy Lee Jones), just a vague shadow of the man he used to be. Finding himself a local celebrity and awarded with a briefcase of silver dollars- one for every day he was a POW, he tries to adapt to civilian life with his wife (Linda Haynes), who is now engaged to another man, and his son, who doesn't remember him. But any chance at healing is destroyed when a gang of thugs show up at his house to steal the silver. Tragedy thus descends on Major Rane a second time, stealing whatever shred of humanity was in him, and sending him on a one-way mission: vengeance at any cost.

Completely deserving of a US release, but we'll see if it's worth replacing my UK Blu.

I have the UK release too and I hope the soundtrack and picture gets cleaned up some more for release here. Also, Linda Haynes does not play Rane's wife but the girl who gives him the silver dollars and goes on the road trip with him.

Is there any reason not to expect a new transfer for Shout's Blu? Anyone who has the UK Blu will need a reason to buy the US version. I have a copy - it's watchable but far from perfect.

Hopefully they will upgrade a few other of the MGM DVD-R titles, like Modern Girls, Spellbinder, and New Year's Evil.

I hope they change the spine to black. the brownish orange is weird. Yes, I know this isn't an important think ultimately, but it would look better.

Really, I like the orange...it's different and will make it stand out nicely. So glad we are getting this release.

I agree... it isn't fully retro but it gives it a better spine so it doesn't blend in with all the other cookie cutter ones. Still I love that cover art.

And I hope that they don't touch what they have - assuming that it might be the same transfer the UK release uses. One of the reasons why this film looks like film is because they did not try to "clean up".

The UK release looks just fine.

We had to move the release date to May so that we could add an important interview to the disc, so i think they took it down until we announce May titles.
