When a tint was being debated in regards to FOTR, it wasn't entirely unreasonable to question whether it was an error or intention, particularly since (at the time) the studio and Peter Jackson hadn't issued a direct statement on the matter. However, and this is a critical however, if any tint is present in An Unexpected Journey, its presence only confirms the grading and Blu-ray encodes for both FOTR and HAUJ presentations as accurate and any coloring changes or choices as intentional.

The obvious conclusion here is that the new FOTR color grading was implemented to bring the film in line with the color grading in HAUJ. Moreover, as has been discussed before, the exact same color grading could have been (and most likely is) present in HAUJ's theatrical presentation. No one would or would have noticed. In a properly darkened viewing environment, the eye perceives relative whites such as these as crisp, clean whites, bright blues as perfectly bright blues, etc. As has also been stated, it's extremely rare to see pure whites in any film nowadays unless contrast has been cranked to the extreme.

Any further discussion of a tint (green, teal or otherwise) should only focus on one's subjective appreciation (or lack thereof) for Peter Jackson and Andrew Lesnie's specific color grading choices and filmmaking intentions in HAUJ. Images and screenshots can be tweaked all day long, but the same could be done to The Matrix, Underworld or any other film with stylized color grading. It doesn't highlight a problem, just an inherent element in the color grading.

Anyway, thanks as always for posting! I enjoy reading all your comments, whether I have the time to join in or not

Well I think we can safely say that will never be the final cover for AUJ, as nice as it is.

I was just wondering if I had forgotten this scene because I didn't recognize it. BTW, I hate Warner's generic blue banner.

So Beorn is in the extended cut?
There’s something big and powerful and wise, and it’s begging us to end its worthless life. So let’s be Temple Grandin for the night, and find a friendly way to make it die.

They're definitely changing the artwork. They won't have any other opportunity to stick Gollum on the cover, so why waste it?

Fellas! It says "Artwork TBA" down below the cover!

It means Artwork TO BE ANNOUNCED!

So, this cannot be it! And Beron's pic with Gandlaf was released way before the movie was announced as a Trilogy. They must have put that scene in An Unexpected Journey, when There and Back Again was considered to be Part II, the concluding part. Now, I suppose we shall see him in The Desolation of Smaug.

I want to buy this but I know shortly after there will be an extended version

I'll probably just pick it up and then wait for the extended trilogy set that will eventually come out.

The extended edition will probably be released right before Desolation of Smaug hits theaters in December. I'll just do what I did with LotR. I'll buy the theatrical, and when the extended version is released, I'll just sell the theatrical and put that money toward the extended version.

I'm really surprised that the theatrical BD is coming out this soon.

This will be a blind buy for me. I'll buy the theatrical on release day, but I'll wait for reviews on the extended edition before I determine if it will be a necessary upgrade or not.
