Default To The Arctic 3D (IMAX documentary) - March 26th 2013

To The Arctic

Warner Brothers
2012
40mins

Release Date : March 26th, 2013

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/To-the...Blu-ray/64883/

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the 3D Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet Combo Pack release of To the Arctic 3D, an IMAX documentary directed by Academy Award nominee Greg MacGillivray (The Living Sea, Dolphins) and narrated by Academy Award winning actress Meryl Streep (Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice, The Iron Lady). The film arrives on Blu-ray on March 26th.

To The Arctic takes you on a never before seen journey through the power of the IMAX lens into the lives of a mother polar bear and her two seven-month-old cubs as they navigate the changing Arctic wilderness they call home. Captivating and intimate footage brings you up close and personal with this family's struggle to survive in a frigid and dynamic environment of melting ice, immense glaciers, spectacular waterfalls, and majestic snow-bound peaks. To The Arctic is written and edited by Stephen Judson (Everest), and produced by Shaun MacGillivray (Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk). The musical score is by Steve Wood, with songs by Paul McCartney.

Warner Bros. has yet to reveal technical specs or special features.

The trailer has my interest. Looks like some good eye candy.

Includes BONUS 3D version.
Wonder if that means they'll be charging a 2D price? For 40 minutes, it better be <$20 on release day.

Pre-order is up and... it's >$31.00. Brilliant. Why say that the 3D is a "bonus" if you are just going to charge a 3D price anyway?

It's a pass for me until it hits <$20.00.

I'd rent it for under five to see the bonus material (if there are any), but really 31 dollars... that's highway robbery - it's not even THAT good a movie - there are far better superior IMAX documentary films out there.

I love movies and documentaries like this, but I'm not gonna spend over $20 for this. I mean $25 for a 40 minute movie, that's pretty crazy.

Does any one know if there are multiple BD versions? The review on this site says it has the DVD and the 3D BD but the link takes you to an Amazon page showing what looks to be a single BD version.

Default rental?

not sure if anyone else has gotten the combo pack with arctic tale, but i just opened mine and the to the arctic disc very clearly has the "RENTAL" text on the front. seems to otherwise be the without the minimal special features, though, so. not sure if i should contact wb, or if this is how it is in the other double feature pack, as well.

Ouch. I would contact Warner to see if they can send you a replacement.

finally got around to getting sherri over at wb to replace it, after a bunch of emails back and forth, and a call. i mailed the entire thing with a prepaid fedex ground label and she sent it back, double padded-enveloped, and..it appears to be exactly the same disc, just without the "RENTAL" text but still has a 3d logo. it doesn't play in 3d (i have a playstation display that does 3d fine), and special features do not appear in the main/root menu or in the popup menu during playback, as is sometimes on discs.

taking a closer look at the database, it looks like there is ONLY a 3d/2d disc release, like the more recent island of lemurs, so i guess the content is still the rental content? i don't rent stuff so i'm not sure where i could find if the rental version is stripped, but the disc art exists so i'm not sure what to make of it. just emailed her again, we'll see what she does..she seems to only want to do exact release-for-release exchanges, rather than just send out the appropriate single release. it would probably save them money if she just sent me the standalone release..(and if they stopped shipping everything fedex ground), but.

just updating from another thread where my previous post was mentioned..

i emailed her back after that post, and asked her if she could send me the standalone release, which includes the special features (and is incidentally also 3d), as there is only the single 2d/3d disc (has a black label), except for apparently the stripped rental version with the incorrect "3d" disc art (has a grey label), that's included in the combo set. received it about two weeks later, no slipcover.
