I really, really liked this movie...until the last 20 minutes, which felt like it belonged to a whole other movie. The scares just continued to escalate throughout the first 3/4 of the movie, and I was expecting a completely terrifying climax, which unfortunately never came. But seeing the movie a second time was much more enjoyable knowing how it was going to end. I still plan on buying it and I definitely recommend it.

This will likely go down as one of the 10 worst films I see this year. One of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've seen in some time.

Saw this in the theater the other night. Had no intentions of seeing it, but very glad I did. I found it be a very enjoyable movie. Great creepy atmosphere, interesting story, and a couple good twists. I'll be getting this eventually when the price comes down.

The front cover looks sick. That little girl is grabbing on to the wrong arm.

One of the better PG-13 "horror" movies out there. Definitely picking this up.

That's actually not the cover art. It's the movie poster. I wouldn't complain if they ended up using that for the cover though.

Agreed. I thought there some really cool atmospheric and genuinely creepy moments sprinkled throughout, but most of the time, it's like the movie couldn't make up its mind as to whether it wanted to be a visceral, creepy movie, or a run-of-the-mill, by the books jump fest. The latter took hold way too much for my liking, and I agree, the last twenty minutes particularly, ended up being unintentionally hilarious.

Truthfully, though, the last PG-13 wide release horror film I enjoyed was Insidious, so I'm relatively hard to please.

Lame idiot script with no twists or surprises stretched out with endless loud noises and screeches as the dumb ghost goes about her pointless haunting. And WAAAAAY too much use of CGI and showing the Mama ghost way too much that I felt like I was at a goofy amusement park ride at Disneyland (yes, especially that last 20 minutes - gag!) The two girls were good, and Jessica Chastain was terrific and I hadn't seen her in anything before (I wasn't even aware that was her for the first half hour - I had thought she was a younger actress and kept waiting for a new character to show up that never happened). Unfortunately, even though Chastain is great and particularly her character had potential to be really interesting, nothing is really done with any of it. It's all written so half-@zzed.

I'm all for a more gothic old-fashioned approach to horror, but not when they are so underwritten and laughable as this one was. This is a horror film for people who very rarely watch horror, as every element (which isn't many here) has been done to death a million times before. Really dull. It's not the worst recent horror Hollywood has shoveled into theaters, but I'm truly baffled at some of the positive reviews. I guess the bar on acceptable quality in movies is so low these days that even barely mediocre gets some rave reviews. Del Toro is really dragging his name further into the mud with every new 'presents' credit.

I'm a Jessica Chastain fan and all, but I don't think I'll pick this up.

I browsed through the plot on Wiki and I found it to be a bizarre and predictable horror film of the current age.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced and detailed the Blu-ray release of executive producer Guillermo del Toro and director Andy Muschietti's Mama, starring Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones). The well-received horror film arrives on Blu-ray on May 7th.

Mama is the haunting tale of two little girls who vanish without a trace from their suburban neighborhood the day that their parents were killed. But when the young sisters are found alive years later in a decrepit cabin, their uncle (Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Chastain), take them in. As they try to introduce the children to a normal life, Annabel begins to wonder if the traumatized girls are the only guests they have welcomed into their home or if someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.

Special features include:

Matriarcal Secrets: An in-depth exploration of the digital and practical effects employed to shape the film's phantom presence. Blu-ray exclusive.

Deleted Scenes: Deleted scenes with optional commentary by director/co-writer Andy Muschietti and producer/co-Writer Barbara Muschietti

Original Short: Original short with introduction by Guillermo del Toro and optional commentary with Andy and Barbara Muschietti

The Birth of Mama: Mama began as a chilling short that announced a new voice in the horror genre. Exclusive interviews with Guillermo del Toro and the filmmakers track the bloodline of the feature and explore changes needed to make the transition to a film.

Feature Commentary: Audio commentary with Andy and Barbara Muschietti
