That Thing You Do! PRE-ORDER

Quote:
It's the summer of 1964, and Guy Patterson is a salesman at his father's appliance store in Erie, PA. By day, he sells toasters and transistor radios. But at night, he retreats to the basement, sits down at a set of drums, and disappears into a cloud of jazz percussion. In other words, he's ready to roll when a local rock band loses its drummer and asks him to sit in at a college talent show. One month later, The Wonders are shooting stars in the Play-Tone galaxy--with a recording contract, a state fair tour and a trip to Hollywood. As their signature song, That Thing You Do!, rockets to the top of the charts, The Wonders embark on a humorous and surprising journey where they not only get a taste of fame, but an extraordinary look at the halcyon days of rock and roll.

I agree. But if you hate the song, there's no way you could sit through the whole movie. The play it so many times.

The source is Amazon Canada (Fox's dates for US and Canada are concurrent). No word on extended cut, though.

I really liked this but for some reason I have a feeling it won't live up to my memories of it.

Well, I'll probably know soon enough

for some reason ITS THE ONLY SONG played through the entire darn movie!
Bands/groups need to know more than one song to make it out there!

I think that was the main point of the film.

Love this movie and it has infinite replay-ability for me. Any time it comes on TV, I get sucked into it.

It's the MAIN song (which gets played to death) but not the only song.
Anyhow, day 1 for me.

I'll grab it when it's $7.99 or less. I like it, but not for more than that.

Hanks wrote and directed a really solid little gem here. He certainly has little to prove at this point in his career, though I'd like to see at least one more try by him as director/writer that isn't Larry Crowne.
