Here's to hoping Sony sticks with that classic artwork as opposed to that artwork used on the most recent DVD releases. Hopefully Funny Lady will be released the same say.
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.

I've always been partial to this poster, though I realize it'd be too retro for a Blu-ray cover:
[Show spoiler] Knowing Sony, though, it'll probably be a photoshopped promotional image. Do we have a time frame on when to expect this release? I remember reading that Sony plans on doing a re-release to theaters nationwide beforehand like with Lawrence of Arabia.

Can't wait!
According to a Streisand blog, Sony is expected to release Funny Lady and The Way We Were (40th anniversary) this year too, hopefully Yentl's to come as well (as 2013 is the 30th anniversary). Last edited by MiracleandWonder; 02-15-2013 at 03:03 AM. |

One of my very favorite musicals brought to the screen Funny Girl at last! Given the 4K treatment, too! Just like Lawrence of Arabia this should look and sound spectacular on Blu-Ray. Hope Fox treats their Blu-ray release of Hello, Dolly! with the same TLC they gave The Sound of Music, 2013 is turning into a bumper year for the musical genre.

I've seen this film many times, and I've always thought it was one of Barbra Streisand's best films because it allowed her to use her strengths as a comedian, singer, and dramatic actor. The production values are high, the music is great, William Wyler's direction is lively, and the story, though predictable, is very touching. It's a musical masterpiece, it is one of the greatest musical films ever to have been made. Can't wait for Blu-ray!

"Hello, gorgeous" are the first words said by Streisand in her very first film, Funny Girl. After winning the Academy Award for Best Actress, Streisand's first comment when handed the Oscar statuette was "Hello, gorgeous." Barbra Streisand was a voting member because the President of the Academy at the time, Gregory Peck, let her bypass the normal two year wait period because of her work on Broadway. When she found she was nominated, she, like we presume any member nominated, voted for herself. If she hadn't, she wouldn't have tied with Katharine Hepburn for the year's Best Actress Oscar. Both got 3030 votes each. Streisand's revealing outfit was designed by Arnold Scassi. |

So, the press release has been issued, and we're just getting the same two vintage featurettes the DVD has. No deleted/extended scenes (which at least 20 minutes' worth are known to exist, likely more), no third vintage featurette (The Costumes of Funny Girl, which occasionally pops up on YouTube despite Sony taking it down repeatedly), no commentary, no retrospective featurette/documentary. Sony's made a big to-do about the film's anniversary and restoration, but they still managed to skimp in the bonus features department. I'm excited to see the new restoration on Blu-ray after watching it a couple of times on TCM, but overall, this release is a missed opportunity for me. I guess there's always the 50th anniversary...
