Gran Turismo 6: “We actually do have a PS4 version in mind”, says Yamauchi

Gran Turismo 6 hits PS3 later this year, but Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi has stated that the company has a PS4 version in mind during a new interview.

Speaking with OPM, Yamauchi said, “We actually do have a PS4 version in mind,” although he didn’t say much more on the matter.

The game has 1,200 cars and Yamauchi’s desire for authenticity across the board has let to cars handling more accurately than ever. He said that his team’s data capture for vehicles is attributed to a lot of driving and sensors.

“Driving a racing car, you control it with a lot of different sensors mounted on the car, he explained. “We’re able to collect a lot of different data: how the ride height of the car changes when you’re driving, how that changes in relation to the aerodynamics, and how your steering balance changes.

“Two weeks ago I drove the Nissan GTR GT3 on the Nürburgring, and we collected the data from that car as well – and when we returned to Japan we fed all this data into Gran Turismo. I drove the same [car and track] in Gran Turismo, and started to realise what was different.”

Do you want to take to Gran Turismo 6′s tracks and feel how the cars handle for yourself? No bother. Just download the demo and take it for a spin.

What are you talking about? Gran Turismo 6 Prologue will totally be ready for the PS4.

Then we can play Gran Turismo 6 in 2015.

I'm gearing up for the PS4 and the likes of Driveclub, i'm not touching GT6 on PS3 any day of the month. They have taken the game engine as far as they can, and did stunning work with it. We really don't need a new Gran Turismo game until 2015 at the earliest. GT5 is also the reason i'm keeping my PS3 as well.

I agree. GT6 on the PS4 would have me sold day 1 pretty much, but Drive Club has a really interesting slant with the online aspects that would keep me constantly coming back with friends to play. GT5 in that regards was a bit linear.

My dream type of game is similar to Drive Club, but possibly with a progression system like GT in respects to where you start. Having to earn the money etc. to purchase the exotics. Maybe add in a wager type system for clubs to make money and purchase cars and upgrades. Not sure if that's included in Drive Club but it basically takes the social side of Drive Club and the online club play and kind takes GT upgrade style mechanics.

A bigger dream would be a game that let's you drive to the airport, board the cars onto the plane, walk off and into the plane. Then interact with other real people on the plane a la PS Home style.

The actual 'flight' wouldn't be that long. possibly show a little bit of 'flying' over continents etc, then skip to the destination or let people skip ahead and out of the plane with their car ready and waiting in a spot in the new place.

God that sounds fan-damn-tastic!. Kinda making a consumate racers game!

Meh, Gran Turismo needs an overhaul. I used to be the most die hard GT fan you could find, but it has gotten long in the tooth. Somewhere along the line they lost their way and stopped making a fun game. As much as it hurts me to say this, Forza is so much more fun than Gran Turismo. GT has turned into a job like game, it is more tedious than enjoyable.

GT needs something to overhaul their games, but at the same time they need to do it i suppose in a fresh way that seems original but that's going to be an uphill battle to an extent.

There were actually a few features they had in the previous games that were good but dropped. I actually found it annoying that the license system wasn't really needed anymore to enter races, but an optional. That should be brought back in the way it was before. The 'ready to go' function doesn't really work in a environment that should encourage skilled progression.

GT5 was complete crap. I can't remember the last time I had ever played a game that going through the motions.

Forza on 360 has beaten down GT in pretty much every way.

A better way to describe it would be that they focused too much on quantity and not quality.

I would agree. Somewhere along the line Gran Turismo became more about the specs and less about the fun.

The ausio clip from the interview.

A lot of people might be dissapoint this E3 if this turns out to be true. But I guess they can't have two racers competing for the PS4 limelight.
