I love Andy Griffith! I hope they do a boxset! I'd also love Leave it to Beaver!

Going to have to grab all these for my parents, they adore the Andy Griffith Show.

So, does my father which is why I like it. I know if I buy the first season tho they might release a boxset! I hate when they do that!

Hopefully at least the first 5 seasons will be released. Couldn't care less for 6-8.

Given how closely tied this series is to North Carolina, it should tell you something as to how different seasons 6-8 are when most North Carolinians don't acknowledge those seasons for the most part as even existing. To most people I know, the show ended when Don Knotts left and I tend to agree with them because the post-Knotts (or color episodes depending on how you'd like to refer to them) seasons are a completely different show. It's Andy Griffith in name only.

I can't find a link on Youtube for it, but the scene in "Barney and the Choir" where Barney is unknowingly lip synching that song with the older man in the back room is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV.

Wow, that price is high.

But, I think I can say with confidence that the HD transfers are excellent, because I've watched some episodes on Netflix, where several seasons are available in HD. Granted, streaming hd is never as good as a blu-ray, but they look great if anyone wants a sample. It's as if you're in the same room with Sheriff Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bee, and the rest. Many of the episodes are still very funny, and sometimes touching. And boy do they take you back in time. Even in the 1960s the show was about nostalgia for a fictional small town America that never was in many ways, but now it's almost a science fictional trip back in time to an era where people thought and acted quite differently from today....

I bought seasons 1-5 on DVD for around $10 each this past year, but will upgrade to the Blus once the price comes down.

Waaayyy too expensive! I love the show (Seasons 1-5) just as much as anybody else but I think I'll stick with my DVD sets where the PQ is just fine. It's Andy, not Kubrick's 2001. Save your money.

I think better pq helps shows like this too.

But the price is, as you say, way out of line. The only time I've seen an msrp of $129 for a tv show is for the *rebuild* of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Even for Star Trek that price is steep, but for that show they are spending millions of dollars to literally rebuild it and remaster it piece by piece, with the original film pieces and an improved sound mix, and that includes redoing and improving some fx. Plus, it's an hour long show (45 minutes per episode without the commercials) and so at the street price of sometimes as low as c. $60 The Next Generation is still a very good entertainment value, on an hourly basis, compared to a new release movie. There are about 20 hours of programming (not even counting the bonus VAM features) and so when it's on sale it comes to just 3 bucks an hour.

But for the AG Show, they didn't rebuilt it at all. They just scanned the film and cleaned it up, which is much, much, cheaper. Plus it was a half hour show, and so a season is only about 13 hours of programming, even though they would typically do 32 shows in a season for the AG Show. Anyway, if the street price reaches $60 it would be almost double the price per hour of Next Gen. And, as I already said, they are not rebuilding this show. I think they should have set the msrp at more like $60, with a street price of $30 when it's on sale. Anyway, perhaps it'll get there in a year or two....

I agree, at around $30 per season it's a consideration.

I agree, way to expensive. I spend my money pretty freely on movies and TV, but I will have to think hard about this one. Even though I love the show.

Then they will wonder why sales were poor, and end up not releasing all the seasons.

Yes! This is why i have been holding off buying the dvds!
I'm pretty sure the price is just a place holder. I guessing they will be around $35.

I'm sure the price will drop. I don't think they are stupid they should know noone will buy it at that price. Including myself.

If the $129.99 list price is correct, I don't see this going that much lower than $90.99.
