Finally!
Fox talked about restoring this film for bd years ago.
I've wondered what has taken so long.
great news!
thought for sure it would be a TT release.

Great news! I am a huge Chuck Heston fan, so lets keep them coming! Would love to see "Fifty-five Days at Peking" arrive some day, but it sadly seems to be a title stuck in Blu-ray purgatory.

So glad to see Fox back in the game with their catalog titles. 2 years ago this likely would have been a TT title. Keep the 20th century fox classics coming

This is streaming in HD on Netflix for those that want to check it out before buying.

How's does it look (if you have seen it and if you don't mind)? I don't have Netflix.

I briefly previewed the Netflix version, and I thought it looked good. It definitely doesn't appear to be tampered with. It has a nice visible layer of grain, and an overall natural look to it. The colors are very pleasing to me. The film looks a little on the soft side, but that could be how it was filmed originally, I don't know. Of course, Netflix may have an older master, and even if it's the same, the quality on BD will be much better.

This could look better than the Netflix version, as Harry Knowles recently played a 70mm version of THE AGONY AND THE ECSTACY on his BNAT birthday party.

If they use the 70mm version, I imagine it should look pretty spectacular.

aside from the perfluffle with the first edition of 'Patton' Fox is getting better with it's 65mm transfers...

I've never seen this, but this is a definite blind buy

The fact that the aspect ratio is given in the rubric as 1: 2.20 means that it's a transfer from the 70mm Todd-AO original, not the 35mm prints that were the only ones to reach anywhere outside of America. Given how South Pacific, The Sound of Music and Cleopatra have all looked in their respective Fox transfers from prints shot in Todd-AO, this will surely be exceptional. The sad irony is that it's only recently that the frescoes have been restored to their original saturated-colour glory: at the time this film was shot they were looking at their worst, coated with centuries of soot from candle-smoke.

Fox could digitally insert the new restored frescoes into the movie ...

The Art and cinematography should pop if 20th Century Fox does it proud. Can't wait to see the results.

It is my understanding that recreations of the frescoes were used in The Agony and the Ecstasy". The filmmakers were not permitted to film in the Sistine Chapel.

The Great film! Did somebody know would be the edition of this film on Blue-ray with C region? I am from Russia and my player, regretfully, may use only C region's DVD...
