iron man 2 BD share is wrong
karate kid did 19 BD index and iron man 2 did 32...iron man sold 1,7 more units than karate kid... iron man 2 and karate kid did overall index 70.1...they are tied...they sold the same units... karate kid did a 27% BD share so, we can say that iron man 2 did a aprox 46% BD share (1.7 greater than karate kid BD share) |

HDD is reporting the Top 20 unit percentage as 34.15% for the week of 10/10. Even though Home Media Magazine does not publish it they still get it sent to them offline. Last week was 30.15% I'm not quite sure but I think thats a new record for that statistic, its better than Avatar week , Snow White last year and the Christmas holidays last year, so it should be a new record there. Christmas 2009 was 21.20% so thats a little higher than this weeks 20.5% BD rev share with Avatar at 22.37% still leading. |

Case closed:
Home Media Magazine corrected the "Top 20 Sellers for the Week Ended 10/10/10" and added the following note: Quote:

Well something like missing a lessor title that had low volumes sales is pretty trivial and sometimes I don't think they were even mistakes as much as the item have so little volume it did not register on the NV charts. But Iron Man 2 slipping to 10% BD marketshare in the second week is another matter and it would have been noteworthy enough for the publisher to mention in his story for the week (which he did). So its pretty good of them to identify the issue and make the correction even it was not their fault. Its a significant statistical change and kinda noticeable to retailers who are their core audience and also goes to their credibility so its not that surprising they would make the correction.

That doesn't sound right.
Unless they're counting rental-via-streaming or digital copies claimed from DVD/BD packages.
I need to stop buying so many movies and not getting around to watching them.

I was actually being sarcastic. You know - DD is suppose to put BD in its grave as many like to say.

Yeah, that is amusing. Doesn't that number also include all sources? SD and HD, VOD, streaming, download, etc., etc., etc... Seems to me that people still favor a tangible product when it comes to their movies.
Now the real pain begins, Danny-boy.

DEG's numbers are much higher than Home Media's own numbers. Through 9/30, HM's U.S. numbers for BR are about $831 million compared to DEG's $1 billion.
HM's numbers through 10/10 total about $936 million. I'm predicting (based upon HM's numbers) that 2010 ends with about $1.3 billion. But if DEG's numbers are correct, it will be more like $1.5 billion. But note that that will still be less than digital downloads, although not necessarily less than HD digital downloads. HM's BR market share to date (in $) is 13%, although 10/10 had a very nice 20.6% $ share. |
