iron man 2 BD share is wrong

karate kid did 19 BD index and iron man 2 did 32...iron man sold 1,7 more units than karate kid...

iron man 2 and karate kid did overall index 70.1...they are tied...they sold the same units...

karate kid did a 27% BD share

so, we can say that iron man 2 did a aprox 46% BD share (1.7 greater than karate kid BD share)

Default It seems that the 10% was an error it was really 46.1% as 2ND WK BD% for Iron Man 2

It seems 10% was the BD marketshare of only the Blu-ray only sku according to HDD. for some reason the NV first alert report did not automatically add in the combo BD/DVD sku in the second week numbers as it properly did in the first week.So the second week Iron Man 2 numbers really were: 46.1% BD share = which was the combination of 10.3% BD only SKU + 35.8% BD+DVD SKU.

That makes more sense.

If Iron Man Blu-Ray sold 33% of Beauty and the Beast, and BatB was 100% Blu-Ray...then it is utterly impossible that there was a 10:90 Blu-Ray to DVD ratio.

Using the 70.16 from the overall table, and the 32.36 from the Blu-Ray table, that would equate to a 46.12:53.88 ratio. IE: 47% Blu-Ray by their normal accounting.

HMM has had errors in the past, and there *IS* an error here...it's just a matter of where.

*EDIT* Actually, I don't even have a guess as to where the 10% Blu-Ray comes from. What I do believe, is that the 10% is the number that's wrong.
It seems the 10% was just the sales of the BD only SKU as if the BD+DVD combo did not exist.

HDD has the Top 20 BD share this week as 30.09%. Thats the old style pie chart calculation. (for 10/03 Iron Man 2 released week)

They still get the old style calculation from HMM offline.

I'm hoping more studios will sell media as a combo of the DVD and Blu-ray as the only option like Disney did with BATB. This will be the way to accelerate the adoption of the format in both hardware and software. Eventually, people who buy the movies for the DVD version, when getting the Blu-ray version also, will finally give in and get Blu-ray players.

Does anyone know the top 20 ratio?
34.15%

HDD is reporting the Top 20 unit percentage as 34.15% for the week of 10/10. Even though Home Media Magazine does not publish it they still get it sent to them offline. Last week was 30.15% I'm not quite sure but I think thats a new record for that statistic, its better than Avatar week , Snow White last year and the Christmas holidays last year, so it should be a new record there.

Christmas 2009 was 21.20% so thats a little higher than this weeks 20.5% BD rev share with Avatar at 22.37% still leading.

Home Media Magazine corrected the "Top 20 Sellers for the Week Ended 10/10/10" and added the following note:

Quote:
"Note: The originally reported Blu-ray Market Share of 10% for Iron Man 2 was based on the single-disc version and did not include the BD/DVD combo pack which the new total has been updated to reflect."

Wow. I don't believe they've ever fixed their charts before when they had typos on them (things like Blu-Ray % having a - on a title that was actually released).

Guess there must have been some serious uproar.

Well something like missing a lessor title that had low volumes sales is pretty trivial and sometimes I don't think they were even mistakes as much as the item have so little volume it did not register on the NV charts. But Iron Man 2 slipping to 10% BD marketshare in the second week is another matter and it would have been noteworthy enough for the publisher to mention in his story for the week (which he did). So its pretty good of them to identify the issue and make the correction even it was not their fault. Its a significant statistical change and kinda noticeable to retailers who are their core audience and also goes to their credibility so its not that surprising they would make the correction.

I agree, its very unusual.

I've updated the chart on the previous page with the corrected data.

Default BD Sales increase 80% over last year (Q1-Q3)

From the DEG . BD sales increase 80% from 2009 levels for the first three quarters of the year :

Quote:
Consumer purchases of Blu-ray Disc software reached $1 billion by Sept. 30, an 80% increase from the first three quarters of 2009...“While we continue to encounter tough market conditions, there are a number of positive trends emerging, particularly in some of the industry’s key growth areas,” said DEG president Ron Sanders, also president of Warner Home Video. “Blu-ray continues to show strong growth in every category, new release packaged media sellthrough is up, and digital distribution is gaining significant momentum as we move into the fourth quarter.”

Hopefully the nice sales numbers will prompt retailers to lower prices a bit.

What makes you think it is a typo? I don't see any indication of that. I anticipate a very strong finish for Blu-ray sales and an increase of 90% over last year once the sales for all four quarters are finalized.

That doesn't sound right.

Unless they're counting rental-via-streaming or digital copies claimed from DVD/BD packages.
I need to stop buying so many movies and not getting around to watching them.

I was actually being sarcastic. You know - DD is suppose to put BD in its grave as many like to say.

Yeah, that is amusing. Doesn't that number also include all sources? SD and HD, VOD, streaming, download, etc., etc., etc... Seems to me that people still favor a tangible product when it comes to their movies.
Now the real pain begins, Danny-boy.

DEG's numbers are much higher than Home Media's own numbers. Through 9/30, HM's U.S. numbers for BR are about $831 million compared to DEG's $1 billion.

HM's numbers through 10/10 total about $936 million. I'm predicting (based upon HM's numbers) that 2010 ends with about $1.3 billion. But if DEG's numbers are correct, it will be more like $1.5 billion.

But note that that will still be less than digital downloads, although not necessarily less than HD digital downloads.

HM's BR market share to date (in $) is 13%, although 10/10 had a very nice 20.6% $ share.
