USA Tightrope (1984) Clint Eastwood - June 10, 2014

Tightrope Blu-ray

Quote:
Lured by the promise of kinky sex, two men prowl the French Quarter. One is a cop. The other is a killer.

Clint Eastwood is Wes Block, a lawman walking a Tightrope separating him from the man he strives to be and the man he fears he is. When investigating brutal sex murders, he uncovers a link between himself and the suspect. To the killer, the only good hooker is a dead one - especially if she's been with Block. Soon no woman who knows Block is safe, including those dearest to him (Genevieve Bujold and Alison Eastwood).

Showcasing New Orleans at its moody best, writer/director Richard Tuggle (Escape from Alcatraz) adds shadings to Block that make him more than a stoic action hero. And Eastwood grabs the challenge with one of his best performances ever.

Apart from the generic photoshop cover, I'm very excited for this release!

Been waiting for this. I hope we'll see more of Eastwood's back catalogue soon.

I remember as a kid starting to watch all of Eastwood's films, I always thought this was the sixth Dirty Harry movie.

That's funny, me too. They probably did that on purpose.

A decent Eastwood film though it's still a mystery to me why we don't yet have blu releases of PLAY MISTY FOR ME, THE BEGUILED or BRONCO BILLY, all of which are Clint classics.

Speaking of which, I have the new German release of COOGAN'S BLUFF which is English-friendly. It hasn't been restored so the print isn't pristine but it hasn't been tampered with either and looks pretty good; most definitely an upgrade from the DVD. It also includes an 8-minute vintage featurette which I've never seen before. It's been grabbed from a video recording so the quality is pretty bad but it's nice to see and I doubt it'll turn up on any US release because of the PQ issues.

I'm so in. Clint is one of three actors that I collect EVERYTHING from.. it was one of his weaker films, but still quite enjoyable.

and i'm with Goofnut.. Eiger sanction would be awesome...just watched it on Netflix the other day and was wishing it would come to blu soon.

Day 1 purchase for me. I remember when the young blond girl who played Eastwood´s daughter asked him "What´s a hard one Daddy?" while Eastwood was driving a car.

About time Warner Bros. I still have the old snapper case DVD....the PQ on that DVD is basically unwatchable compared to today's quality BDs. It wasn't great PQ even in the pre-BD days. Looking forward to tossing it out.

One of my favorite "atypical" Eastwood performances (his character definitely has a hidden kinky/sleazy aspect). Now I'll only need to look for BDs of The Beguiled and Play Misty to complete my Eastwood BD collection. Well, maybe Bronco Billy as well.

Considering "Sudden Impact" is my least favorite of the Dirty Harry movies, I like to pretend THIS is the 4th film in the series.

Yeah, Sudden Impact is a little off for the cannon. However, there are some great moments in the film.

[Show spoiler]I thought it was hilarious that they are all over Callahan to take some time off and the various bad guys who have a beef with him are attacking him while he is off doing his own thing on his own kind. He defends himself with predictable results. The end result is that Callahan is in more deep water with the brass. I thought the entire sequence was hilarious. The consequences of this of course lead to a real departure for the series as he is not the primary focus so much anymore as Sandra Locke's character is the one who is exacting revenge and dialing up the body count. A real departure for the series and must have had some moviegoers scratching the heads after watching it expecting it to be more in line with the previous three films.

Apologies for anyone if my spoiler is not hidden. Trying different things to figure out how to do that.

Excited for TIGHTROPE, of which I am a fan. Also a big fan of SUDDEN IMPACT, which is scuzzy and nasty in a way that doesn't happen from a major studio film in this day and age. A far cry from Oscar-friendly Clint, but also far from unworthy. It's THE DEAD POOL whose existence I choose to ignore.

Many of the other titles mentioned in this thread are Universal Clint titles, unfortunately, which means it's a coin flip as to whether they'll look great like HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, or be a DNR monstrosity, as so many of their other catalog titles are on Blu.
