doubt it.
optical is not gone yet, and as at least another 10 years behind it. Apple would be foolish to deny their creative users the ability to burn blu-ray discs on their computers.
don't think apple is that stupid. they would not alienate themselves from their users who make films, make DVDs, make home videos, etc.

Agreed. btw. Tomorrow is an important date for those interested in MacBook Pro updates
see
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...y_systems.html
and
http://www.macrumors.com/2008/02/24/...-this-tuesday/
although I do not think its Blu-ray time for Apple yet, the updates will be interesting to see.
Don't forget the BD-R, custom Blu-ray and Pro video markets where Blu-ray also shines.

Apple. The Look And Sound of Yesterday.

Seriously I'm sick of a lot of aspects of them. From their refrigerator white coloring, to the really lame 1980's era UI the ipod suffered from UNTIL ABOUT LAST YEAR. To them stepping back their "flag ship" model from HDD storage to way too small an amount of storage (WTF? 16GB? And now they make a measly 32GB?) - but hey, at least the UI doesn't suck anymore. Only took them, what, ten years.

Woah.. dude.. chill.

There is nothing wrong with the white look (which is not the only look they have.. such as the black, the bushed steel, the multi-colored plastic/metal, etc.) I have no idea what you mean by 80's era UI. Flagship what? computer? ipod? The iphone and ipod touch have so many new features and technology, they can't fit as big a hard drive in them, and no one else is complaining since they do so much. The ipods themselves store 160GB. So..... chill. There are a lot of mac fans here that do not agree with you, please don't start a fight.

Flagship ipod model I mean (the Touch).

Sorry, but why can't they fit in a HDD in a touch? Who says it can't be another 3mm thicker? Is there a rule about that? No? Or that the 80/160 unit can't have a touchscreen on it and scrap the wheel.

My first ipod was a 4g 60GB photo. It had such bad audio quality problems it wasn't funny. It would distort like heck with low impedance phones (anything under 32 ohm) at certain frequencies. It was a bad design flaw. Did they fix the broken models? No. Did they admit it? No. But the next model to come out they fixed it.

And by 80s era UI, I mean lots of white space on forms (so even expanded the album art was tiny, especially if the album art was landscaped AR'd), the
one dimensional menuing system was 80s style.

I'm just annoyed as it seems like they keep stringing out these slight improvements every year to get you to upgrade, but they still can't get it right. I hate the old ipod UI, and think the Ipod touch UI is finally great. But 32GB isn't really enough. But why don't they have the 160GB units with a full touchscreen? There is no logical reason for it other than stringing along customers.

And the move to Intel based PCs and laptops. But will they let their OS run on intel based machines? No. They'd seriously be able to give MS a run for their money.

Oh for pete's sake - If you promise not to start another platform war thread here, I'll promise not to bash your favorite movie.
The MacBook Pro updates are relevant because they are used considerably by Pro Video producers on the road, who also tend to be significant HiDef content creators for Blu-ray. Before anyone starts a war here, please give Sony sales a call and order the PMW-EX1 demo DVD. Please watch it with particular attention to the testimonials of XDCam EX work flow and note how the ExpressCard-SxS / MacBook Pro scenario works for those guys.
Don't forget the BD-R, custom Blu-ray and Pro video markets where Blu-ray also shines.

Not only do we need affordable Blu-Ray burners we need DVD Studio Pro 5 so we can design and burn profesisonal looking Blu-Ray discs. I'm willing to bet it will happen this year and both will be announced at the same time.
