Anyone know who owns the distribution rights to Patton, starring George C. Scott? Please say it's a blu-ray studio! I love that movie and would absolutely love to own it in blu-ray high def.

Thank you. That is good news. I really hope they have that high on their list of catalog titles to bring to high def soon. That would be awesome.

that reminded me of a quote "The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder." - Alfred Hitchcock

Shouldn't be on that short of a list. It was a best picture winner if my memory serves and had very big talent behind it. It has also kept its popularity fairly high over the years. I bet it would take a little effort to give it the attention it deserves as the DVD was only 5.0 sound, I believe. To get that with DTS-HD MA would be amazing indeed.

EDIT: And this is odd, it states on IMDB that George C. Scott won Best Actor in 1971 for his role as Patton. But this is the odd comment on IMDB about GCS, "Refused to accept the nomination and the award, because he did not feel himself to be in any competition with other actors." Does anyone know any more about this little tidbit?

The title would be a must have on blu. It would be a long movie though, so I would interesting to see how the handle this movie with sound and audio being such a long movie.

Indeed, this is a great and timeless movie and deserves the best possible presentation at all times.
Here's a bit more on George C. Scott's commentary on Oscars. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_C._Scott He returned the one he got for Patton saying he didn't consider himself in competition with other actors. I've never figured out exactly the meaning of that statement, whether he considered himself far above all other actors, or if he felt acting was not a competitive sport, but rather an achievement. I suspect the latter is what he meant. He later said this about it: "The whole thing is a goddamn meat parade. I don't want any part of it." |
