Great news! But very ironic that I recently went to hell and back to get one of the few remaining French DVDs.

Awesome news

They are responsible of the best BD release out there for Scanners (beter than Criterion's and Second Sight's) so it's very promising, I guess

Yup. Telling from what they did with Scanners this release could be great.

You can also pre-order it at:
http://www.medienversand.at/DVD/Demn...-blu-ray-.html
(better shipping than DTM in my most recent experience)

Subkultur just posted Screenshots from the final master/encode
It looks breathtaking! (not even remotely considering this being a low-budget mid-90ties direct-to-video production)

It was not such a low budget, it cost between 9 and 15 million dollars (depending on the source, maybe it's $9 million below the line and 15 total).

Russell Mulcahy wanted to use old school technics such as models and matte paintings, and chose as a visual designer none other Alex McDowell, who had just done THE CROW and CRYING FREEMAN, and went on to do FIGHT CLUB, MINIORITY REPORT and WATCHMEN.

It wasn't produced as a direct-to-video production per say (and it did go theatrical in some territories), but the fact that it's such an unusual film and that Lundgren's star was then fading quickly ultimately decided of its overall DTV fate.

A demonstration of Super35 mm (used here because cheaper than real anamorphic, which Mulcahy ultimately regretted since most video releases were pan & scanned), from open matte to intended 2.35:1 aspect ratio:

open matte

1.85:1

2.35:1, as framed on set

Recap of the digipack extras:
Quote:
- 20-pages Booklet
- Interview with Screenwriter Sergio Altieri
- Isolated Music & Effects Sound-track
- Photo Gallery
- German Trailer
- French Trailer
- Original English version of the Booklet in PDF file
- Dolph Lundgren Filmography
EDIT: apparently the Amaray disc will be the same...
