Default Top 10 most important games of the Playstation era..

List what you think have been the 10 most important games during the Playstation era. Here are what I think are without a doubt the most important games/franchises in the Playstation era...

1.) Resident Evil (PS1): This is the game that changed everything IMO. It truly was the first time where I thought gaming was going to graduate from being a kid's hobby to being enjoyed by people of all ages. It was a game changer.

2.) Metal Gear Solid (PS1): My all time favorite game on PS1. For it's time, this game had production values and story telling not yet seen on console.

3.) Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2): While this series got it's start on PS1 as a top down experience. It wasn't until 3 came out on PS2 where it completely blew the doors open on 3D open world gaming. This game alone was responsible for moving a TON of units during the PS2 era.

4.) Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec (PS2): The series started on PS1. However GT3 A-Spec was a phenominal achievement on PS2 hardware for it's time. It was beautful to look at, beautiful to play, and just looke head and shoulders better than anything else on the PS2 at the time and sold a lot of PS2's

5.) Crash Bandicoot (PS1): Playstation finally had it's "Mario" and for it's time, this game was an amazing achievement. So much so that it even impressed Shigeru Myamoto who took time out at E3 to play it and showered the developers with complements on how good the game was.

6.) Uncharted 2 (PS3): While the first Uncharted was great, Uncharted 2 was spectacular! It was the first time where a game had given me real confidence in what the PS3 was capable of.

7.) Final Fantasy 7 (PS1): IMO this is the game that put console RPG's on the map. While JRPG's in previous generations had loyal followings, it was FF7 that catapulted them into the mainstream. I knew tons of gamers back then who weren't even into RPG's buying this game.

8.) The Last Of Us (PS3): Referred to by many as the "Citzen Kane" of video gaming and to be honest, I can't really disagree with that. An absolute instant classic and huge achievement in story telling, character development, voice acting, graphics, gameplay, etc. THIS game has it all.

9.) God of War (PS2): Greek mythology, graphic violence, gorgeous visuals, and fun gameplay. This game, while coming out later in the PS2's life cycle, managed to move a lot of units and launch an endearing character in the Playstation aresenal.

10.) Little Big Planet (PS3): Such a fun an innovative platformer! The whole "play, create, share" concept was born right here in this game and it resulted in over a million user created levels. This game was truly an innovative idea at the time.

If we're talking games that changed the industry (for better or worse depending on your opinion of FPSes), this list should include Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Its influence is felt in nearly every MP-centric game released today.

Don't know what I'd bump off your top 10, maybe Crash Bandicoot, since you're got three Naughty Dog game on your list and it hasn't aged particularly well.

EDIT: Unless you mean for your list to be all Playstation exclusives? then CoD4:MW doesn't fit the bill.
Last five watched: E.T. UHD (10/10) / The Hitman's Bodyguard UHD (7/10) / Valerian UHD (8/10) / Justice League (8/10) / Atomic Blonde UHD (8/10)

Now Playing: Assassin's Creed Origins

ISO: Funko Pop! Universal Monsters exclusives: GITD Bride, GITD Creature, GITD Wolf Man, Flocked Wolf Man

Ridge Racer was the most important. It was the first game that showed the power of the PS1.

Yeah I was mainly trying to keep it PS exclusive titles. I thought about COD 4 but frankly I have always felt that franchise has been way more important to Xbox than it has to Playstation.

Yeah Crash Bandicoot is probably the most arguable of everything I included but I remember during that time period how wildly popular that game was. It was a true system seller at that time. Oh and to be fair, hardly anything on PS1 has aged well LOL!

Don't forget how popular Twisted Metal was during the PS1 era. That's what I'd put instead of Crash. Though the franchise has fallen into obscurity after the lackluster PS3 version.

Im going to stick with Playstation exclusives. And I only got time for 6
  1. Final Fantasy 7 - Pushed Sony well over the top of Nintendo. Nintendo has never really recovered
  2. Metal Gear Solid - Started the era of 'cinematic' gaming with heavy amounts of cutscenes
  3. Gran Turismo 1 - Before Gran Turismo racing games were just racing games. After Gran Turismo people wanted to earn credits to buy and upgrade their cars etc.
  4. Heavy Rain- Ushered in the next step of point and click story heavy PC games for modern console gaming
  5. Little Big Planet 2 - Realized all the potential of LBP1. Now Media Molecule is taking the next step with "Dreams", a game that might change user generated content titles forever.
  6. MAG - 256 player online battles. 256 players. 128 vs 128. Nothing had ever been done on this scale before. Too bad a separate project lost Zipper alot of money and we never saw the sequel.

I loved MAG, even though I sucked at it. I still wonder why no one has tried to do something similar in scope this console generation. 64 players in BF4 is about as high as it goes right?

Battlefield has had 64 players since Battlefield 1942 for the PC in 2002.

Its about time they upgrade to at least 96 player maps, 48 vs 48.

In Battlefield 4's 64 player maps theres not enough people to defend and attack every objective. So alot of objectives are taken without a fight, which is boring.

You had to fight for every single thing in MAG, nothing was given to you.

For "most important" I'll go with the games that had the biggest impact in turning Playstation into a leading console in 3 of it's 4 generations of consoles rather than what games I liked the most. These are the most influential IMO.

Final Fantasy VII - Has to be on the list. Square moving this game from N64 to PS1 shifted a wide swathe of gamers, especially in Japan.

Crash Bandicoot - Closest thing to a "mascot" the Playstation had in it's early years.

Gran Turismo - The original game was the best selling PS1 game of all-time.

Metal Gear Solid

Dragon Quest VII - Not a significant seller in the U.S. but HUGE in Japan. This was the highest selling PS1 game in Japan.

Resident Evil

Grand Theft Auto III

God of War - Kratos has sort of become the mascot for the Playstation brand during the PS3/PS4 era.

Uncharted

LittleBigPlanet - Sackboy has become another one of Sony's most well known characters.

Another game that was not mentioned: Wipeout
One of the first games that I bought with my PS1 from Kaybee Toy Stores.
I think I still have that game somewhere.

How the heck could nobody list Twisted Metal 2? The Twisted Metal series was HUGE and spawned so many car combat games in the PS1 and PS2 generation. I am bummed that the genre is all but dead. It is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures
