I assume you haven't been on the Third Window Films thread then? People have been talking about them for months! Being released with help from Gareth Evans (The Raid: Redemption, The Raid 2: Berandal).

Was some trouble with the masters delivered by Office Kitano so TWF are clearing them up a bit to make them more HD-ready...looking forward to it! Especially Hana-bi (but I do like Kikujiro too, and haven't seen Dolls before). Hopefully a few more afterwards if these sell well!

I've never bought anything by Third Window (although there are a couple of releases I want) so I haven't delved into the thread until now. I was literally just looking through it and thinking my comment in here might make me look like a total n00b, and when I came back to the main page of the forum I saw there was a response. Instant clarification, I thought, that my n00bishness has indeed been spotted!

All the same, it's very exciting. Hana-bi is the one I'm most excited about, but I do love all three films (and his work in general). Dolls is a beautiful movie, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Any chance these will be region-free?

No worries! I hadn't heard about them either until I noticed a lot of activity on the Third Window Films thread a few months ago. I didn't own any TWF releases either until these titles were announced, but have since bought the Tetsuo double-set (two films I'd been meaning to see since my teens), and there are a couple others I might be interested in.

I'm quite picky with my modern Japanese film though but Kitano is a no-brainer...somebody I truly admire and it's crazy to think so few of his films are on UK Blu-ray (just Zatoichi and Outrage). So I'm glad a company that releases primarily Japanese titles is handling the release of these, and I hope it encourages them to release a few more (maybe Sonatine, Violent Cop, Boiling Point or Kids Return). I had the AE DVD release of Dolls on my wishlist for years but never picked it up, so I'm glad it's getting a Blu-ray release instead (and I already have Hana-bi and Kikujiro on DVD, but they can obviously be improved on).

He's possibly the best Japanese director alive now

It's funny. I was thinking of Kikujiro earlier tonight, and apparently it's getting a release! Hopefully this will be Region A friendly so I can get a copy. Love that movie.

Interestingly, the German editions of Hana-Bi and Dolls (couldn't find a listing for Kikujiro) issued by Capelight on Nov 20th are three disc sets - two blus and a DVD.

I doubt the German sets will be English friendly but it would be nice if the UK editions match them for extras (whatever they are)

Ryuzo And The Seven Henchmen is out in Japan next week http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/feature/tak...gn=gogai151003 No English subs on the bonus disc with the limited edition.

It gets a couple of screenings at BFI Southbank next week on the 8th (sold out) and 9th. The link produces errors so Google it and you can see the English trailer

It looks like no English subtitles on Capelight's "Dolls" http://www.alive-ag.de/index.php?pag...ikelNr=6416321 and "Hana-Bi", too. http://www.alive-ag.de/index.php?pag...ikelNr=6416322

As my all time favorite movie, I'd be tempted to buy a region free bluray player just for Kikujiro.

Was thinking of cancelling and buying later in the year, but likely won't now! I wonder if the other two will go the same way?

Anyone know if review discs have gone out, or are going out soon? Would preferably like to see a review before mine is dispatched...
