Default Just bought a PS3

Not much else to say until it arrives.

I went PS3 over PS4 for two reasons:

1: Backwards Compatibility. I can play any PS1 game on it. My favourite games are all PS1. Though I did own a PS2 for awhile, I never gravitated toward any of the newer games, and, for the most part, stuck with my PS1 titles. I'd rent PS2 titles, but don't believe I ever bought one.

2: I have a crap-house internet connection. Whilst the PS4 can access previous Gen. games via the PS online/live cloud service, my internet connect just isn't able to support it (cost/data wise).

I haven't owned a gaming console in over a decade. This'll be fun.

I thought only the older PS3 models supported backwards compatibility... and only a handful of titles actually worked.

Nevertheless, a great purchase. My PS3 was (and still sort of is) the best purchase I've made for my home theatre.

My suggestions: Uncharted franchise (1, 2, & 3), The Last Of Us, LittleBigPlanet (1 & 2), Metal Gear Solid 4... and some others that I can't think of at this moment while I'm at work.
HT EQUIPMENT: Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000, Onkyo 805, B&W M-1s & AS-2 Sub, 60GB PS3, Toshiba HD-A2

All PS3s are back-compat with PS1 titles. The first-gen PS3s had hardware back-compat with PS2 titles, second round of phats used software emulation.

Yep. Which is why I went PS3. I didn't own a PS2 long enough to care for any games, so not being able to play them is a non-issue. PS1 games are where my enthusiasm is, until I find some PS3 games.

A lot of the best PS2 games are also available via PSN for use on your shiny new PS3, as well.

I live in what most people would call a sh*thole.

The only real internet option I have is ridiculously expensive. I can use as much data as I like, but it'll cost me ... big time.

It's the main reason I didn't consider a PS4. Online gaming is not an option for me.

You sound like me! I bought a slim PS3 after not owning a console for years and do not regret it at all. A HUGE selection of games to chose from now that are cheap. Great blu-ray and media player in general. I think you'll enjoy it

Oh wow! I did not know that all PS3's are backwards compatible with PS1 games.
I still have a handful of PS1 games that I bought many years ago.
I'm going to test this out later.

Sometimes we hear of people who are “very” honest, “mostly” honest, or even “a little” honest.
Should we even use modifiers with the word honest? I don’t believe so. There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren't.

+1 Last of us and Uncharted (those are the best exclusives)
GTAV
Mass Effect 2

These rounded out my favorite games this generation.

Get the Mass Effect trilogy. It's pretty impressive how the results of your gameplay from one game carries over into the next, even if it eventually collapses on itself at the end.

Uncharted trilogy
Heavy Rain
Red Dead Redemption
Metal Gear Solid collection
The Last of Us

The original large PS3s were fully backward compatible with PS2 games.

I already own a 120GB PS3 Slim, but I wouldn't mind buying a Super Slim.
Sony makes beautiful looking consoles.

Holy crap! That's actually true! I tried some of my PS1 games on my slim and they play just fine. Not sure how I've had a PS3 for 6 years and never figured this out. Either way though thanks for the info Bradman!
