What I want to know is why the blu has none of the incredible extras present on the regular DVD. That's the only thing preventing me from upgrading.

yes they mention multiple times that he was a veteran of battles and a combat engineer. The director's cut also added a scene where he talks with the king about improving Jerusalem's defenses when he first arrives showing that he has a strategic mind which he uses later on. Another thing I loved was it implied that God was talking to him and watching out for him even though he says multiple times that god doesn't speak to him. The scene in the desert when his friend talks to him then all a sudden his friend is gone nowhere to be seen.

That's the only reason why I kept the DC DVD set.

How can you not love this movie with great lines like this?:

Quote:
"I put no stock in religion. By the word religion, I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the Will of God. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves. And goodness. What God desires is here [points to head] and here [points to heart] and what you decide to do every day, you will be a good man...or not."

One of my favorite movies on blu-ray. I must've seen it over 6 times already. And even though it's one of the first releases on the format and uses MPEG-2, it's still one of the best looking blu-rays I have.

I'm pretty sure this will get re-released eventually with all the extras from the previous DVD DC, as well as an AVC re-encode that should only make it better. This would be an easy double-dip for me.

It was one of Fox's earliest BD releases from way back in 2006...the movie runs more than three hours long, and has a high bitrate MPEG-2 encode, so along with the lossless audio track, it takes up most all of the disc....

Anyone?
Odo: Have you been at war?
Balian of Ibelin: On horse. And as an engineer also.
Odo: Against whom and for whom did you fight?
Balian of Ibelin: For one lord against another, on a point which cannot be remembered.
Odo: There's better game now: one God against another. The pay is proportionate.

Theatrical cut was extremely confusing due to the sections left out. They really cut out the heart of the film. Which is why I actually disliked it.

After hearing that the DC was extremely better, I got it on Blu-ray and think the movie is now brilliant and extremely well put together.

Stupid Fox. Hasn't Ridley proven himself by now. Let the man make the movie he wants and leave him the hell alone.

It makes sense that they couldn't fit the all the extras and the movie on the same disc. But easily fixed with the addition of a 2nd disc.

I would have to assume that Fox wanted a shorter theatrical cut to appease theater owners.

it´s a great movie! i have watched it many times and it´s not getting boring.
Great movie! Like all of Ridley Scott´s movies
(never seen the theatrical cut...and i have no intention to watch it!
The Director´s Cut is the definite version!) 10/10 for Kingdom of Heaven!

Theater owners typically (I would imagine) like shorter features. Shorter features=more showings per screen in their theater=more tickets sold=more concessions sold

There's too much to go into in detail, but in short, it adds a hugely important subplot about Sibella's son (who I believe is absent from the TC altogether), which explains why, among other things, her hair is shorn at the end.

There's also just a lot more detail and texture. The opening is much longer, and there's more explanation of Balian's background, so later, when he does things like irrigate the desert, it actually makes sense.

There's also more of a sense, though it isn't stated explicitly) that the Hospitaler character is more than he seems.

I am truly sad that Ridley Scott won't ever really be recognized for this film, and it will probably always be considered one of his mediocre efforts. It's really unfair.

I was terribly disappointed in the theater version. But I had heard the BD DC was vastly improved, so I gave it a try last year. Now, it's among my favorite movies, Highly recommended.

Love this movie except for the horrid Orlando B., but wonder why they eliminated the musical overture and intermission music?

The 5 highest grossing films of all time are over 2.5 hours long. 2 of them are over 3 hours long. In fact 9 of the top 10 highest grossing films of all time are over 2.5 hours long.

So uh, yeah, trust me...it has nothing to do with "appeasing theater owners."
Fox is just a terrible studio.

Yes thats true. but studios themselves usually shy away from 3 hour features. And only the big epic movies are really given the lee way to go that way. Titanic, TDK, Avatar - all were expected to make alot of money

Im guessing Kingdom of Heaven wasn't expected to do as well in theatres as those other films, and studios and theatres feel shorter than 3 hours will be beneficial as it makes the film more approachable and reaches a broader audience. Its the same reason studios push for PG13 ratings on their big blockbusters - because PG13's make more money, even if it hurts the overall quality of the film
