Sentimental Journey (1946) - John Payne, Maureen O'Hara, William Bendix, Cedric Hardwicke

But, like Warner, will they be genuine pressed blu-rays...or will they go the Sony route?

This is good news IF they understand Warner's MOD are pressed discs as it relates to blurays.

I see no indication of this. I was pretty sure FoxArchives were using DVD-Rs for the deep catalog releases.

Example of one of the releases they already did of the above movie:

DVD-R Note: This product is manufactured on demand when ordered from Amazon.com

Sitting Pretty would be a buy for me...maybe Woman's World depending on price and reviews.

Seems like they'd kick off with more 'marquee' type titles. Something to build work of mouth quickly....

0 for 4 so far, but curious to see what's in the works. Sitting Pretty looks like it's been sitting in the tanning booth!

I love Coney Island and will absolutely buy if it is a pressed disc.

DVD MOD is not really relevant, as Warner does DVD-R for 99% of their DVD MOD releases, too. It's just the BD releases from Warner that are 100% guaranteed to be pressed discs.

FOX has a horrendous reputation for releasing terrible MOD DVDs, including sub-standard VHS looking transfers, pan and scan versions, etc. Michael Schlesinger, an industry insider and established devotee of classic film posted awhile back at HTF that the then head of the MOD program at Fox was known for having no interest in catalog titles and invested as little effort in their releases as possible. I have no idea if this person is in still in charge at Fox, but it will be interesting to see how this new faction of their MOD division plays out.

Early days. Are they BD-R or pressed, are they a step-up from their awful DVD MODs, are they region locked, how much are they? Fox seem to be very busy remastering a fair bit of their back catalogue in 4K, they're not releasing them, but they are licensing them out. As I said, early days.

Just wondering, are these titles that both Twilight Time AND Kino took a pass on? Or is Fox re-thinking their distribution strategy?

Still, I might be tempted if these were pressed discs at reasonable prices.
Current pre-orders:
08/28/2018: Tucker: The Man and His Dream

Most wanted blu ray release: Bringing Up Baby

100% aware of all the factors.

With the store being the one comparing it to following in WB foot steps, we can only look to see what they have done in other formats. My experience suggests that the Discs Fox released MOD are not even on the level of WB MOD DVD-Rs.

So I'm pretty skeptical. Really hope I'm wrong.

I'll be generous and say 1%.

Sony and Fox have started their MOD programs years after Warner, and Sony's are BD-R and the catalog market is in worse shape than when Warner started theirs. And as mentioned above, Fox isn't exactly a stickler for quality on their DVD Archive program and I don't think they are going to make an extra effort on a format with 1/3 the sales.

I wouldn't be surprised if Warner starts doing BD-R as well at some point (on certain titles and reissues), when sales get too low to justify minimum pressing quantities, and they see others doing BD-R successfully.

Exactly. Fox's Cinema Archive DVD program is notorious for releasing widescreen films in atrocious pan-and-scan versions that look like VHS rips (at the low, low price of $20 a pop!). Some of the older, Academy ratio films they've released look good, but it's extremely hit or miss. I'm definitely not blind buying anything this label puts out.

It really comes down to the films involved. Warner Archive just had to go back to the printers on Body Snatchers three times to fill pre-orders, but that's an 80's genre movie which always sell well. With these 40's comedies and whatnot you're probably right, the sales are so low they might not want to even press 1,000 copies (the minimum for professional pressing I believe).

We'll see though, who knows. Luckily I mainly collect 70s and up stuff so it likely won't effect me much.

I have all of these on MOD DVD, and I'll probably pick them up but not right away. Hope to see some of their Archive Westerns on Blu.
