Before the Devil Knows You're Dead Blu-ray

Quote:
A family faces the worst enemy of all — itself. Andy is an overextended broker who lures his younger brother, Hank into a larcenous scheme: the pair will rob a suburban mom-and-pop jewelry store that appears to be the quintessential easy target. The problem is, the store owners are Andy and Hank’s actual mom and pop and, when the seemingly perfect crime goes awry, the damage lands right at their doorstep.

Default Before the Devil Knows Your Dead

Anybody see this movie? It got a very limited release and wasn't playing anywhere near me. But I have heard only good things about it so far. And I love PSH in just about anything.
Also, I think I remember seeing this was slated for Blu-ray right? Anybody know what day? Thanks in advance!

All I know is word is that Marisa Tomei has the hottest scene of the year in it...that's good enough for me.

It's got Phllip Seymor Hoffman in it. Therefore, it's a must-see in my opinion. I'm looking forward to it.

BTW, if you haven't seen it, watch Owning Mahoney. Fantastic little known film with PSH in one of his best performances yet.

My guess is that the later date is correct. I've been having trouble finding a few of the titles from smaller studios recently. The release dates come and go without any mention of them or any working order links.

I think the 4/15 date is correct. Best Buy has that date shown. Plus, I have mine pre-ordered through CD Universe and it's "processing".

I'm almost positive the 4/15 date is right. There were some changeups, and I think Amazon just has not corrected their date yet.

Image Entertainment, the distributor of Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, has 4/15 as the date for both the DVD and Blu-ray - so I tend to trust them. Also as evidence is the fact that I have the Blu-ray in my hand already. Admittedly, I ordered from a place that is known to ship early, but I have never received something a month in advance - only a week or two at most.

I saw a copy yesterday on the shelf at a small local retailer in Tempe Arizona, Zia Records. I go there for used discs but the retail for this title new was a bit too rich for my blood. My guess is that you will see it at the larger retailers sooner than later.

on a side note....if you are a fan of marisa tomei, I highly recommend this movie. I didn't care for the movie, but she is smoking hot in it, and she's naked or topless quite often.

CD Universe lists the audio as DTS HD MA + a commentary by Lumet and a making-of feature.

Default Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

I couldn't locate a thread dedicated to this upcoming release, so I just started my own. It's not a film that many people saw, or even had a chance to see, this past fall. However, it's an excellent movie by legendary filmmaker Sidney Lumet, who's already in his 80's. For those unfamiliar with his name, here's a sampling of some his work:

- 12 Angry Men
- Long Day's Journey Into Night
- The Pawnbroker
- Fail-Safe
- Serpico
- Murder on the Orient Express
- Dog Day Afternoon
- Network
- Prince of the City
- The Verdict
- Daniel
- Running on Empty
- Q&A

He hadn't done much of interest since the early 1990s, but Before represents a true comeback, if not a full-on return to form.

It features marvelous performances from Marisa Tomei, Ethan Hawke, and Albert Finney. But the real prize here is the endlessly captivating Philip Seymour Hoffman. His work in this and The Savages alone should have earned him some sort of honorary Oscar this past year.

Anyway, you can tell I dug the movie. However, I'm not sure if it's one I simply have to have on Blu-Ray. I know, I know. Sacrilege. Anyway, has anyone heard anything about it? If the price is right, I may go for it, but this is a character piece that I'm not sure I can spend more than $20+ tax on without my wife hating me. Plus, with so many of last year's critical smashes coming out in the next few weeks, I'm not sure I'll have enough dough for all of them.
Shut up and go watch The Wire.

I'm a Lumet fan (the final frame of "Prince of the City" is embossed in my mind) and really enjoyed this film -- made my Top 10 of last year.

Early in the film, I questioned the necessity for the non-linear storytelling, but it did certainly add an extra dimension to the storytelling. It's almost a given that Phillip Seymour Hoffman will give a great performance, but I was pleased to see the always underrated Ethan Hawke give a terrific performance in a good role.

I'd certainly like to add the Blu-Ray to my collection. (Don't know why everyone has the release date as 4/16 except Amazon with 5/6.)

I think more people will be interested when they find out that Marisa Tomei is quite nude in this movie.
