I notice he makes mention of the DD track being 640kbps. I wonder what sounds better, the discs Dolbydigital track or the DTS track?

It sounds like Paramount are using very good MPEG2 encoding on their discs.
It is interesting that the non format-specific studios are releasing the best stuff (for the most part) and I guess that they need to consider that people will compare the two formats and thus they need to ensure that both are excellent. This makes me very happy.

With the recent reviews of the Paramount titles coming out and basically saying that MPEG-2 looks just as good as the VC-1 HD-DVDs, this pretty much blows all of the FUD concerning VC-1 superiority out of the window. I'm really excited to see Mission Impossible 3 on BD as well as the other MI: movies. The comparisons between the two formats is going to be great. I've watched two of the Paramount movies on BD so far and still have two to go. So far they have looked great. On par with most of the other releases that BD has enjoyed over the past 2-3 months.
Blu-ray Disc Collection- I don't think I can count that high...

So is Sony really doing a bad job with their encoding? Or is some of that FUD?

Some of Sony's first titles had some problems. Ever since 7/25 which brought us The Benchwarmers and Stealth, I felt that Sony started to turn around thier quality issues. Then on 8/15 when Memento, Into The Blue, and RV came out things got a little bit better. 9/19 seems to be the day when Sony really has seemed to have ironed out all of the issues with their encoding... This brought us S.W.A.T., Tears, A Knights Tale, and The Big Hit. Click is great and I eagerly await Monster House and Black Hawk Down. All of the other studios have been pretty consistant, with the exception of LG, who's first batch could use a little love.

VC-1 is superior to MPEG2 though. It is far superior in its ability to compress. That's just simple truth. Where the FUD comes in is that MPEG2 itself produces an inferior picture. That's not true. VC-1 deserves plenty of props as does AVC. But those that promote it as the end all be all need to be tempered in what they're saying.

Well I viewed Click tonight and anyone that wants to tell you MPEG2 produces an inferior picture is full of it. MPEG2 just needs some space to breathe. I will say that I think each codec may have its own look. That is not to say one is necessarily better than another.

I own this movie on SD and it is great PQ/AQ in that. I think I might have to buy it if I see a low price.
It is a very underated flick with some of the best epic visuals of any film.

Borrowed it from a friend on DVD. I must say, it's definitely not a bad movie and I really like the particular atmosphere the movie portrays. I really got that '50s retro Sci-Fi feeling. I'm also waiting for the price to drop to get this one.

I actually re-watched this a couple of weeks ago. The picture is very stylized and soft but I think its a great look. See that it got a 4.5/5 on both pq and aq, and that is probably right even today. Audio is very good for a dts core, but it can always be improved with a lossless mix.
I am currently browsing german blus for early paramount titles which have been relelased with uncompressed audio over 'here'.
