Default Career Opportunities - 1991 - Jennifer Connelly

So what do we gotta do to get this movie on blu-ray? HAHA I know its not "the best" but I love it. Underrated John Hughes IMO. Plus whats not to love about Jennifer Connelly in this movie? Plenty of Deleted Scenes in the trailer that I would love to see the light of day. C'mon universal!

Wishful thinking.. I know..

It's Hughes-lite but it's still Hughes. I'd pick this up day one.

But we need Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful first...

Yes, the trailer features a lot of footage cut from the movie. This thread from the old IMDb forums attempted to compile all of the missing scenes:
https://moviechat.org/tt0101545/Care...-Comprehensive

There's also many promotional stills of scenes not in movie:

Jennifer on a rocking horse:

Frank with the stuffed gorilla in the snack bar (in the movie we only see Frank riding a bike with the stuffed gorilla):

*Also notice the back cover of the laserdisc has a different still than the one above of Jennifer on the rocking horse

As far as early-90's "Jennifer Connelly Porn" in HD goes, Career Opportunities is a big gap in my collection.

I haven't seen it in so long it would be nice to see a BD of it. I remember seeing it in the theater.

The first time I saw a Target just like with Christmas Vacation was the first time seeing a Walmart.

Pretty wild to read in that thread that this was filmed before Home Alone! I had always assumed it was filmed after.

It was probably filmed around Fall/Winter 1989. When they are in the music section of Target, you can see CD longboxes of:
  • New Kids On The Block - Merry, Merry Christmas
  • Billy Joel - Storm Front
  • Phil Collins - But Seriously
  • Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
  • Randy Travis - No Holdin' Back

Uh kind of a no-brainer for Universal to make this a Target exclusive BD for $9.99. A match made in heaven tbh.

Did a little digging and found my copy of the soundtrack. There are a couple images here that are not in the movie.

CA is a great movie. One of my favorite scenes is the small but memorable cameo by John Candy, playing the manager/boss of Frank Whaley - hilarious

It would be nice to see a "director's cut" of this film with the deleted scenes edited into the film itself, but I doubt that will ever happen. Probably the only thing we can hope for are these deleted scenes in the Special features section - if a Blu of this ever even comes out, that is.

Yes, this is interesting news. Home Alone was released in 1990, and CA was released in 1991. So, you would think that HA was filmed first, but I guess that wasn't the case.

Actually, it should be merged with the prior Career Opportunities wishlist thread.

Precisely! It seems like forever now that I've been begging for a John Hughes Yearbook Collection Volume 2 (triple feature) of all three of the aforementioned movies, which are still inexplicably not out on Blu yet. You could argue that SKoW and CO are slightly more obscure titles, but Pretty in Pink? That's one helluva glaring omission from any Blu library, especially if you're an 80's kid like many of us!

But all 3 of these titles have been near the top of my BD wishlist for years now. Praying they happen before the Blu format bites the dust, 'cause I can't handle these kind of holes in my movie library!
Collector of stuff...

Another thing I wanted to mention about Career Opportunities - I re-watched the regular DVD years ago & noticed it was non-Anamorphic Widescreen, which is definitely sub-par. Not sure if there are Anamorphic WS copies of the film out there, but this is yet another reason to release this on Blu in the correct aspect ratio. I.e., the DVD is long OOP & at least some versions weren't that great to begin with.

Yes, Pretty in Pink not being on Blu is a glaring omission. It's obviously an iconic, classic John Hughes '80's teen film that is as well know as The Breakfast Club (which has had a couple of Blu releases). It's definitely become part of our popular culture. At one time, I thought PIP not being being released to Blu had to do with copyright/music rights (due to the amazing rock/pop soundtrack), but the DVD was released with the soundtrack intact back in the 200X's. And, typically films that have copyright/music issues preventing their release haven't even been released to regular DVD (I speculate that Looking for Mr. Goodbar is one of those films).

So, there probably is another reason for the PIP Blu delay, but not sure what that is.
