Rumors of such payoffs do make the 2 remaining studios expect a payoff to produce blu-ray disks.

As to whether those 2 studios believe Warner and Fox were paid, well, it comes down to their own experience in the red side.

I can believe that some joint promotion deals were done to get Paramount exclusive and perhaps WB (Fox? unlikely). Promotion deals are oftern inflated, actual cash involved is always smaller than the apparent deal. Perhaps even some cash payment to compensate for cutting off Blades of Glory and other titles in the pipe is there, which makes it more difficult to deny a payoff.

But while we hear Ron Sanders quote "I wish" (when asked if they were paid), no such denial ever came from Paramount, as I recall. In fact Fujii while disputing the exact amount, pretty much admitted incentives were there.

no I think it is more for two reasons

1) it makes idiots that wasted money on HD DVD feal better" "I was not dumb to buy HD DVD, it was going to win until Evil Sony stole the victory"

2) helps continue the con job: -Fox and Warner where bribed, they could come to theire senses so don't give up -they won't be real supportrs so it is not a big loss (i.e. look at Paramount/DW - what was it a handful of titles in 6 months and nothing anounced this year so far)

I am sure that Fox saw how Transformers HD DVD was all over the internet after a couple days and thought.... Forget this BD+, lets try to switch to HD DVD.

No matter how many facts and logical points one brings up to the red zombie types out there, they will likely choose to believe otherwise. Of course, there are also people who choose to believe that the earth is flat, that the moon landing was faked, and that they must wear tinfoil hats to keep the CIA/aliens/all of the above out of their heads. Whether they choose to believe reality or not doesn't change reality any more than the A-man's assertions that facts posted by an anonymous insider are less factual because of the insider's anonimity.

Every time I read a post by one of these nutballs insulting The Digital Bits, I really find myself tempted to risk a ban by challenging any red zealot to come up with a single example of false information posted by Bill Hunt. The only times I can recall Bill being incorrect, he has said so freely and corrected the error publicly. Can't say the same for any HD DVD insiders or their worshippers. Seriously, find one documented example of what they are accusing Bill Hunt of. Just one. But when I am tempted to post this over there, I realize that it will just disappear in a couple of seconds and none of them would take me up on it because they know they can't do it.
