Whatever happened to The Princess Bride? It was scheduled for Blu-ray release by MGM about a year ago along with other good titles, then postponed, and since then not a word. If it was announced, I presume that an HD master was available. So, how about it MGM???

It was originally supposed to come out back with those matching pink and blue "Buttercup" and "Wesley" upside-down-logo editions--

Back when MGM thought the only way they could get back-catalog titles on Blu was to quietly package them onto anniversary DVD re-dips....
Of course, that was back when they weren't putting out many titles on Blu, period.

Correction:

Back when they thought all the non-restorations they did back in the DVD days would serve them just fine in an HD world

Princess Bride was low budget and needs work to shine on Blu

It also probably got eaten by the Sony/Fox switchover and back burnered

I'm waiting very impatiently for this one as well. I put off buying it on DVD to wait for a decent remaster, and then that finally comes out after I've stopped buying DVD's. This was on TV the other week and I tortured myself by watching it in SD. Still a great movie though. Wallace Shawn is the man.

It was announced fairly early in BD rollout, but was delayed indefinitely. No firm release date has been announced since.

I saw it delayed, but I was hoping for some news. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I agree, this movie like all movie should get the right treatment and shine on HD.

ok, netflix says they have this on blu and Amazon says the "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer."

anyone own it? is it a good transfer?

When I added it to my cue, it just says release date unknown.
