Question New Sony Blu-ray Profile 2.0 Players Soon?

Hello, new to the forum, but lurking for a while . Question is, during CES 2008, wouldn't Sony have announced ANYTHING about new Blu-ray Profile 2.0 players coming this year? I am going to get a new Sony LCD TV this year when they get released, and to me, it just seems Brand A-to-Brand A makes sense rather than Brand A-to-Brand B and I would like to compliment the new TV with a Sony brand player, but the Panasonics are nice too.

P.S. I do apologize if this question has already been answered before, and any thread redirection would be of help. Thanks!

I heard that is not yet confirmed... If it is, I am in the dark but as far as set-top players, we have:

Here is a link to the Denon Player mentioned earlier. Try doing a search through the news section for more info on Blu players that may be 2.0. Hope this helps. Welcome to the site.

The Denons aren't and won't be BD Live (2.0). They will be BonusView (1.1/Full Profile) compliant.

I think your best bet short term is watching for the Panasonic BD50 or a PS3. I'm a standalone guy too but I own a PS3 for the 2nd room and frankly, the unit rocks.

Isn't the high-end Denon is being delayed to add Profile 2.0 support?

Rather than get lost in the din of CES, SONY has their own line show where they announce the bulk of their products for the coming year. Last year it was in mid-March, and included the announcement of the S300.

Hopefully we'll see some new Blu-ray players at this year's show, and some larger screens in the CES-announced XBR6 line. I'm looking forward to it!

Their site has specs that do not include a network interface. I hadn't heard of a potential 2.0 hardware or featureset add. Any Denon dealers or reps trolling?

Why but why can Sony make PS3 WiFi capable for firmware updates, but not their standalones, which in some cases cost more?

1. Denon != Sony
2. Post a question to bluray.com's Sony SCE insider.
3. The question was 2.0 functionality. Not sure but doubt the spec requires 2.0 players to be able to firmware download over the network interface.

My own suspicions -high cost given the very few who actually have Ethernet by their HD TVs.

Very true, but With a local WiFi network tou don't need an ethernet port. That's how we handle PSS updates, why wouldn't that not work with standalones?
Many people with cable or FiOS internet have a LAN.

I'm not doubting that it would and does work. I have 802.11g/n in my house and it's used for my PS3 to connect. I don't have my Pioneer connected but it's a religious thing with me.

Sony could have done it but was a business decision not to. It's not just the cost of the hardware either. It's developing a user interface and a TCP/IP stack and a transfer protocol, maybe require a 2nd smaller CPU to manage the code, more RAM, the server services on their site and then the time to do all that takes resources off something else.

Wasn't saying I agree with it but I am a very early adopter and I don't use my Ethernet interface.
