Question There will be Blood

Just got back from seeing There Will Be Blood at The Alamo Drafthouse and I must say that this might be my favorite movie of the 2007-2008 Oscar Season. Does anyone know if Buena Vista will handle the home video distribution or will it be Paramount. It would be great to own this one in Blu.

In the US, it's Paramount (therefore HD-DVD exclusive).

In the UK, it's Miramax (therefore Blu-ray exclusive).

It's that simple.

I suspect the bold is what's causing the confusion. From this list, we can't simply ascertain which studio has home video distribution rights for North America. I'll be importing the Blu-ray if necessary, but it would obviously make my life easier if it was released on Blu-ray here.

If you saw the film in the theater, it displayed Paramount Vantage in the opening credits, with no mention of Miramax.

I saw the film in the theater, and I can only remember the Paramount Vantage logo, but I could very well be wrong.

Dunno yet. No official release announcement has been made. Disney said it was slated for sometime in May for the UK. You definitely won't be the only one interested to know if it's region free or not, so I'm sure there will be a thread or two on it once it's announced.

Although I'm in Europe (Ireland), I have a US PS3 and import practically all my BDs.
My worry is that a Disney release of TWBB will be coded Region B only. Disney seem to release US catalog titles (Cars, The Rock) region free, but new titles (Ratatouille, Pirates 3) are coded Region A.
If they follow their own logic, TWBB will be Region B only

I believe that they have released a few brand new titles region free. They might get the sense that a lot of people want to import this one and release it region free. After all, how many people really wanted to import Ratatouille and Pirates 3?

Let's hope for region free though!

Agree, for a movie of this status, all should be able to own a copy. Best movie of the year. PT Anderson

I saw "The Eye" today and it also is a Paramount Vantage/Rogue Pictures release.I was wondering whether Paramount Vanatage was the same studio as "Paramount".Looks like "The Eye" will be an HD-DVD only release in the U.S. as well.
