Default Trainspotting & Erin Brockovich; April 23 in Japan from SPE

http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/do...201/speask.htm

The other movies listed in the article are foreign films which will apparently only have Japanese subtitles.

As for extras, Trainspotting will have a commentary, deleted scenes, interviews, and a making-of and other shorts on the filming, music, shooting up, etc.

Good find JD - too bad the prices here are still a lot higher than in the states. I really want Erin Broc. and may just have to fork out and by my first Japanese release. This one's out on HD-DUD so it might be a while before we see a U.S. release.

They seemed to have designed that Trainspotting cover with importers in mind. There's barely any indication that it's a Japanese release at all.

Not that I mind, really...as long as it doesn't have forced Japanese subtitles, I'm game.

That's pretty typical for a Japanese BD or DVD. Just the title transliterated in Japanese below the original title.

I've got quite a few Japanese BDs of US/foreign movies, and none of them have forced subtitles. I don't think there's been reports of any Japanese BDs having them, either.

Sony has never put strong EE on any of their Blu-ray titles. I don't see why they'd start now.

I <3 Trainspotting. Great movie.

I'll import if they don't release it eventually.
Three PS3s
One Panasonic DMP-BD55
One OPPO Blu-ray Player
About 1000 Blu-rays
About 38 PS3 Games
Here Since the Beginning - When People Told me HD DVD would win!

Buddy. Why do you always take my comments in a -ve sense. The HD DVD version of Erin Brok had noticeable EE in many scenes. So just wanted to mention that the Japan release by SPE should't be slapped with unwanted EE.

I dunno, maybe because you're always being so negative?

So? Sony has never used an HD DVD encode on any of their releases either.

One thing I forgot to mention: It's still technically illegal in Japan to show adult genitals in entertainment, so Ewan McGregor's penis might be mosaiced out. Not that I'm complaining particularly, I just wanted to mention it for those that might have a problem with it.

dvdbeaver review is up.

To my eyes the SD vs BD PQ difference seems to be subtle and I am still unsure if it's worth the upgrade.

Gotta say I'm pretty disappointed in the picture quality.

Some shots look great, but it's not consistent at all.

The master used for this looks pretty ancient. Lots of dirt and pops. It's pretty soft.

Let's be clear here that my problem is not with grain or the drab stylization of the film.
