Is this just plain luck (weak region coding?) or are they actually coded all region like more recent released catalogue titles just not stated as such on the cover?

Thank you.
The problem was that we did not have the correct logo. The new logo correctly identifies region ABC discs, but the early ones may say region 'A' only when in fact they are multi-region.

Japan and US are the same, you should be in good shape. Just to let you know what you can find there that we don't have, if you didn't know already:

Face Off
Hostel
Ronin
The Pacifier

Hope this helps!

You don't find them on there too often. If you really want them, you can order them from amazon.co.jp. Not useless, you can watch them just fine. Unless you're somewhere other than the US or Japan.

crey014 i looked on amazon at the look out and it says it region locked to region 1 which would mean Region A and since its released by miramax all their other releases have been locked to region A so i would say its a pretty solid region A only release

^ I really hope someone could prove you otherwise but the evidence is staggering.

Finding Neverland is Miramax and it's region free, so I'm still keeping my hopes up.

Sony has already stated its policy is to not use region codes on catalog titles. And deal with it on new releases on a case by case basis.
I have two questions...

1. What do you mean it can't last for longer than two years? Does that mean if I buy a region A disc now, even though it wont play now in my region B player, if I try playing it again in 2009 it will work? Can I just set the clock forward in my player?

2. What's a catalogue title?

Sorry for being retarded

1- All future pressings of a disc 1 year after release must be region free

2- A catalog title is any movie that is not a new release, ie Wild Hogs is a new release, Final Fantasy, catalog title

I've ordered Stargate since http://bluray.liesinc.net/ says it's not region coded.

If it is I'll poke someone in the eyes with a spoon.

to me thats the ONLY thing

and depending how this region thing turns out (ie if i am unable to unlocked my ps3 as i have been able to unlock my DVD player) then i may well cave to (dare i say it) HD

its cheaper to import a movie from USA than buy from a shop here
eg, pirates 1+2 cheapest price here is £17.99 each (delivered) so that £35.98..i purchased from amazon.com for abour £28 - with postage

i dont see how/why though as they still make money of the disc else whats the point in releasing a movie for home veiwing?

I was just there last week. Great town, great food, but your beer needs work and DAMN! your scotch was expensive. Now that I think back, everything was pretty expensive. The company spent about $12K for my flight there and back.

I'm back in town in a month. Got any recommendations for dining?

The only real problems I can really understand fully is the one that says that a given film might be produced for arguements sake such as "lucky Number Slevin" which in the US is distributed by The Weinstein Company (and thus so far HD DVD exclusive in the US). They've got the rights to distribute it to the U.S folk and thus make a big share of the money in it's sales. Where as here in the UK it's distribution rights are held by Entertainment in Video which means for us lucky folk here and those that can import it's available to Blu-ray.. In that instance I could understand region encoding coming into effect for example. The Weinsteins would'nt want a guy in the U.S to bypass them and buy from EIV instead and them not getting his money or vice versa.

I never understand how a company that holds the Distribution rights WORLDWIDE should ever have any problems with region encoding since they're getting the money one way or another and the only moan they could come up with would be being able to price it differently in each territory.. which to my mind is wrong anyhow.
