I bought one a few weeks ago, on a recomendation (sp), from another blu-rayer. Keeps my 606 nice and cool, in a closed TV cabinet. Its a great buy.

Thumbs up

I've been using it for a while and it dropped my receivers temperature significantly. Runs nice and quiet too.

i bought one from fry's for 65$. i have an 876 that gets a little toasty. when you have the fan set to low you absolutely cannot hear it, but set it on high and you can barely hear it. so to say that it . i was pissed at first because i couldnt figure out how to get it to turn off when i turn my receiver off so i had to set the fan on low so i wouldnt hear it running all the time, but once i learned how to switch the a/c outlet on the receiver i set the fan back to high. if you have a tendency to listen to things as loud as i do then you will never hear the fan running

i also love the fact that it pushes the hot air out the back of the unit and that the top of it is aluminum so you can stack other components on top of it is space is limited.

OK, I give....how do you switch the a/c outlet....? (I have a 805 and was thinking of plugging this cooler into it to turn on when the 805 comes on.) How'd you do it?

That's how you do it, yes - into the outlet at the back of the receiver.

I'm wondering about receiver cooling. Does heat decrease performance, or just kill the receiver all at once.

For example, I have a Onk 606 in one those open metal and glass stands. I will most likely be installing a low-profile cabinet under a projector screen. This will be more closed in, and I wonder if I should plan for cooling. Will a heat problem start dropping performance, or will I just see 100% up until the day it dies?

A friend needs to exhaust the heat out of the back of his cabinet. The plan is to use the 12vdc trigger on the receiver to engage a relay that will turn the fan on and off when the receiver turns on and off. I want the fan to be 120vac so the trigger voltage does not run the fan. The relay is going to an ice cube relay that I use in building automation controls.
I think a lot or all of the fans on the websites provided are 12 VDC and not 120 VAC ??? You might want to look into small fans used for heating/cooling ducts. Any interest in using a thermostat controlled switch for the cabinet project???

A friend has his receiver in a cabinet and wants cooling and doesn't want to spend alot of money. So all I need is the fan because I have the other stuff to make a control circuit. Thermostat switching is easy enough but a 12vdc relay controlling a 120vac fan is the cheapest, which meets his critieria. Just going to use the 12vdc trigger on the receiver to control the relay, which will turn the fan on and off.

I don't see a temp control on that unit, how do you plan to control it ?( My 606 does not have a rear plug)

I like that one because it directs the hot air to the rear, instead of just fans usually pointed up. The console I'm looking at will need some cooling.
