Warner Bros Batman/Superman Anthology (1978-2006)

I was looking at this upcoming 9-film release, and I find it odd that unless I am missing something, the theatrical version of Superman II is not being included, only the Richard Donner cut.

Warner's most recent DVD boxset of pre-Cavill Superman movies also only presented Superman II in its Richard Donner Cut.
Looking at the specs, I find it strange that they list Superman: The Movie's 1978 soundtrack as Dolby Digital 2.0, when the Anthology presented it in DTS-HD MA. Did Warner really go through the trouble of re-encoding it in a worse format?

Well I'm certainly glad I have the old set then. The Donner Cut is an interesting experiment but the Lester cut will always be my Superman II.

A crime! And I don't love the Lester Cut by any stretch, but the Donner Cut is barely a movie. The editor was a halfwit hack.

We'd have been much better off had they not fixated on the Donner aspect so much as put together an RIC type extended assemblage cut from the studio master sources, including Donner footage when available but still allowing for a functional complete movie. I prefer the Lester cut not so much because I'm in love with all the specific choices but because it has a beginning, middle and end.

Yep. They were too worried about putting in everything Donner did and as little as Lester did, to the exclusion of making a comprehensible movie. They must've talked about that damn scene with Perry White and the toothpaste so much I think they lost perspective.

I still maintain the problem was a competent editor being needed instead of a fanboy; someone who worried less about making sure their name was shown the longest in the new opening credits and more on story flow.

I'm still not sure what this actually is. Is it a tin or a steelbook? Has there ever been a steelbook that could hold 9 discs?

Neat idea combining the two anthologies together, although I can't believe they're reusing those awful covers on the back.

I'm convinced that Val Kilmer has initiated some sort of contract in which newer editions of Batman Forever aren't allowed to display any other actor on the front.

If you're going to release a box like this, both Superman II movies should be included.

This would be like removing Yellow Submarine soundtrack from the Beatles Box and substituting Yellow Submarine Songtrack.

Beatle fans would HOWL over this!

This release is an indication WB/DC doesn't understand the meaning of "Anthology" bad form WB/DC

By the way, I like both cuts. I really liked that DVD tin box that came out and was discounted/blown out by overstock and yes mine had a dent in it but was worth it for price I paid [$15? $20? somewhere in that range]

It's possible Jim Carrey didn't allow his likeness to be re-used for some reason, so they opted for Kilmer alone. Carrey has been really really weird lately, I could totally see them saying, "Hey Jim they need to put you on a re-release cover for a movie you did 20 years ago" and him being non-sensical about it.

It's possible, but I'm also thinking about the Steelbooks that were released in 2013. The two Burton flicks and Batman & Robin all used the emblems, but Forever opted for a shot of Kilmer and stuck out like a sore thumb. I'm telling you, Val is the root of all evil!

I think I'll stick with the original blu-ray sets I have and pass. If they wanted to exclude something and I don't see how they could do it; but, we wouldn't miss Superman IV: The Quest For Peace that much.

Is this set film only are do they include all the bonus materials and isolated score tracks the original sets have?

9 movies. Just 4 good. The first two of each.

I have the Super,an Anthology and the first two Batman movies so I'm good. I won't ever own the third and fourth Batman movies that were a joke. Holy metal Batman! No!

I think it's a tin, correct? I like it and would have bought it if all the supplemental material, and the Lester cut of Superman 2 were included. Too much missing for that price.

I find Superman 3 very enjoyable, but as a comedy not a superhero movie. I also like Returns, don't care who knows it. It's flawed but well done for what it was trying to be, a melancholy Superman movie, which isn't for most it seems. Batman Forever is terrible but has super nostalgia points and Nicole Kidman at the top of her sexiness.

Think you're correct. Looks like the old superman anthology DVD tin from years ago,
